Danger Shield Kit Retail

Replacement:RTL-11682. We've changed the temperature sensor in this Danger Shield and updated a few extra parts. This page is for reference only.

This is the same product as the Danger Shield. The difference is this version comes in fancy clamshell packaging meant for our distributors that need it. Regular customers are welcome to order, but we want to limit the amount of extra packaging finding its way into the trash heap.

The Danger Shield mounts on top of your Arduino or Arduino Pro and equips it with a variety of fun and useful inputs and outputs. The Danger Shield has so much potential; we can't wait to see what you're able to do with it! The shield's features include:

  • Three linear slide potentiometers connected to the Arduino's analog pins 0 through 2.
  • Red and yellow LEDs connected to digital pins 5 and 6 - PWM pins - so you can easily vary their brightness.
  • Three momentary push buttons connected up to the Arduino's digital pins 10 through 12. Those lines will go low when the buttons are pressed.
  • A photocell and a temperature sensor, both with analog outputs, are connected to the analog pins 3 and 4, respectively.
  • An 8-bit shift register set up to control a blue 7-segment LED.
  • A buzzer - so you can get sound out of your Arduino
  • Capacitive Touch pad - Using the CapSense library to sense touch.

This new version uses a different temperature sensor. This product comes as a kit of parts, which you'll have to solder into the included PCB. All parts are through-hole so it should go together relatively easily; but always check your component orientation before soldering!

i am having issues with my temp sensor. it appears to be reading values in the 550 range and values decrease with an increase in temperature. do i have a bad sensor, bad coupled resistor, or have i switched polarity when installing?

Same problem with shield provided at Sparkfun class last Saturday. I see values in 570 range and seem to vary inversely to temp, if at all. I tried the tutorial (at http://www.ladyada.net/learn/sensors/tmp36.html) and displayed values around 280 deg. F. that changed very little, even with a bag of ice sitting on the sensor...

Does this shield work with the Uno?

    • Yes. The Uno works the same as the previous Arduino boards, it just loads code a bit differently. The R3 has extra pins, but is still compatible with all the old shields as well. You will be fine with the Uno or R3.

Bought one today from Micro Center and it had no 1M Ohm resistor

do you guys have an assembly guide 4 this?

    Just a couple of comments.
    1. The link "www.sparkfun.com/danger" listed on the package for more information and resources is a "404" dead link.
    2. There is no mention of the "Cap Sense" on the lower right side of the board.

Out of curiosity, are the parts touching the board in the package, or is there some sort of clear separation between the two?
