The Bright Bunny is, well, a bunny. And as we all know, bunnies love *carrots. Bright Bunny loves carrots so much that when you feed him a carrot, his stomach lights up (not his heart, because that's just crazy)! Well this is all well and good but what does it have to do with electronics? It sounds like a children's toy. And that's *exactly the point.
The Bright Bunny is an electronics kit that can be put together in not too much time and with not too much electrical know-how but along the way you (or your student, or your child) can learn basic lessons about electronics. The inside of the Bright Bunny is so simple: a reed switch, a coin-cell battery, a resistor and an LED in series. The magnet in the carrot closes the reed switch and lights the LED. This is a classic circuit: a supply, a switch and a load. But by wrapping them in some felt and some fluff they suddenly become accessible to a much broader audience. You do a little soldering, a little sewing and in the end you've learned a lot. Besides that, it's just cute!
The kit comes with everything you need to make your own Bright Bunny including some extra felt so that you can customize your bunny. Our resident e-textiles guru, Dia, made the bunny in the pictures to the right as either a self-portrait with red-orange hair and a little smile or a pirate with an orange bandana and a mustache... you be the judge.
This kit does include some small parts, sharp sewing needles and hot soldering irons, it's a great project for adults and children 5 and up, but if you've got a particularly young child, be sure to do it with them. We don't want any kids swallowing felt or getting hurt soldering. We've all been there and it's not fun.

Cute!
this bunny is lame. it never eats carrots. Add a grinder in its mouth with a 500W driver and I'll reconsider it-
This was a cute little project. Just wanted to make something fast and it was perfect for that. It is exactly what it says it is, and everything works.
I did something similar to this for my boyfriend's valentine's day present, except I used an Arduino Pro Mini, an RFID sensor, and a Webkinz. Needless to say, it was not $25, but he has the added bonus of reprogramming his stuffed leopard's heart to blink however way he chooses!

if the battery dies, can you replace it?
You can, but you'll have to unstitch part to get back at the insides. Should happen rarely, though, since it's default-off and only lights up when you trigger the reed switch!
"It sounds like a children's toy." And that is exactly the point to keep it out of small children's hands. Choking hazard for any parts that are non-conformingly detached. General shop rule: If you can pass it through a toilet-paper tube, it is a child choking hazard.
I understand the concern about choking on parts, but I can't wait to put this together with my 6 year old niece! We intend this kit to be used to teach a young one about electronics. We'll get a age range and note on the product page as well.
