Make a cute stuffed heart that lights up when you bend its arm for your cutie, let your creativity soar by making an bird ornament that makes noise when it gets dark or a frog that lights up and makes noise when it gets dark. These projects make for excellent gifts, or just an excuse to get your significant other into electronics. The class begins with an introduction to Plushbots by the creator, Yingdan Huang. Students can choose one of the three patterns to create and embed circuits with. After lunch we will program the projects and troubleshoot the circuits. By the end of the class students will take away a functioning Plushbot.
Concepts covered in this class: During this class we will create a pattern, learn how to layout circuits and print the pattern all using Plushbots by Yingdan Huang. Then students will sew together their project using both conductive and non-conductive thread. Finally we will program your project so the outputs correspond to the input of the sensors. Some troubleshooting of sewn circuits will be necessary and covered before the end of class.
Materials Included in this class depend on the Plushbot you select:
Prerequisites: Students should be able to thread a needle, other than that, beginners are welcome.
**Note: **Please install the Arduino software on your computer before the class. Click here for instructions on installing the Arduino software.
Note: Class registration is fully refundable until Friday, February 3rd, at 5:00pm MST. Please call to do so. If you wish to cancel after that time, or miss the workshop for any reason, we will transfer the amount you paid to SparkFun store credit, but cannot issue refunds. Thanks for your understanding!
What to bring: Students are asked to provide their own laptop and Arduino board and should bring both along with them. Arduino boards can be purchased separately before the class if needed. Bring what kind of Arduino board ?
Any restriction on ages? Why isn't there an example in the pictures of the "elephant" shape? Is this strictly a hardware (plushware?) class, or should attendees be prepared for program alteration as well? Do you choose the animal shape at the class or before?
Elephant and Duck plushbots have been playing with the transmutalator again. They've turned themselves into Kermit and Twitter Bird plushbots.
