an update to my review. I just ordered 10 more of these and now they're using sandisk cards in retail packaging (before they were sandisk imitations that you could scratch the paint off of, but that still worked). the adapters I received also worked (though I cant speak for longevity). So on the whole these cards are higher quality than they have been in the past

I don't know man... on black friday I picked up a 16GB microSD card for this price at bestbuy...

I assume that this is Multi-level Cell Flash (MLC) not Single Level Cell Flash (SLC)? It would be great if you Sparkfun would confirm with a specification sheet for the card. MLC/SLC makes a difference in terms of the number of reliable erase/write cycles and energy per write. MLC can have as few as a couple thousand write cycles. SLC has at least 10x as many. SLC cards are harder to find and more expensive but they would be better for many non-traditional (i.e. Hacker) applications where energy use is a concern and code might not be optimized. If Sparkfun bought SLC cards in bulk I would be interested in getting my hands on few.

Just received a "Jony" and the dodgy adapter that comes with it. The adapter broke with hours of arriving and the "Jony" SD card doesn't appear to have SPI implemented? A rather cheap product as the price reflects, but I wont be touching these ever again!

I got four of these for a projects involving data logging using Open Log. The SD cards I received are "T-Flash" branded and are horrible. Zero of the four microSD adapter worked and the read/write time on the cards was so slow that even at 9600 baud and 10Hz the data logger buffer kept overflowing and I lost data.

While I appreciate the price and availability when I'm ordering stuff for a project these cards need some serious quality control before they get sold to customers.

Hmm... I wish that this sort of low cost, high memory space card was available in chip form, like an SOIC, or DIP.

"This product is guaranteed to work in any of our SD sockets, MMC sockets, microSD sockets, or products that use a SD or MMC card." -- Does this mean Sparkfun guarantees these things will work with the simple SPI protocol that stuff like Netduino and Arduino use?

Same problem here. I have the Jony card with the adapter and it never worked.

Had one of these for two days before it completely failed. Upon inspection, it's a "Jony", and not a reliable brand. The adapter that came with the card works fine for my other microSDs, so I know it's the card. Will be returning this product as soon as possible.

Any chance you would just sell any of the little plastic cases they come in? They make excellent protecting enclosures for your AVR pocket programmer after a little work with a hobby blade.

My adapter just broke after little use. It is a very weak design indeed.

My adapter also failed after 2 or 3 insertions. Don't know if mine was counterfeit or not (nothing printed under the sticker), but after tearing it open, the construction inside is very cheap indeed. One of the loosely secured pins had gotten bent off to the side during insertion, causing the card not to be recognized by my card reader. Picked up a 2nd card locally, and that adapter is working fine for now.

You can get a 4gb card from newegg for about the same price. Just an fyi. I was a little surprised at the price.

Yeah, I've got two bad ones as well. The adaptors are counterfeit because the SanDisk sticker comes off to reveal a "JOYES" branded adaptor.

Received six of these today. cards are good, but the adapters aren't. Not a single one worked. Not a concern and not worth the return for me, since I'm using a microSD reader anyway. Just as a heads up to those who need the adapters, know that they are a gamble
