This skill defines how difficult the soldering is on a particular product. It might be a couple simple solder joints, or require special reflow tools.
Skill Level: Rookie - The number of pins increases, and you will have to determine polarity of components and some of the components might be a bit trickier or close together. You might need solder wick or flux.

If a board needs code or communicates somehow, you're going to need to know how to program or interface with it. The programming skill is all about communication and code.
Skill Level: Rookie - You will need a better fundamental understand of what code is, and how it works. You will be using beginner-level software and development tools like Arduino. You will be dealing directly with code, but numerous examples and libraries are available. Sensors or shields will communicate with serial or TTL.

Will this work on Mac OS X Leopard?
Very good starter kit for if your on a budget! First order from this site, and definitely not the last(ordering more right now, lol).
Looks great
Do I have to but USB cable in addition to this kit?
It doesn't mention the fact here that these run BASIC.
Generally, you wouldn't select a microprocessor without at least looking at the data sheet, and frequently you would do more study than that. I would imagine no one felt a need to cover the BASIC Language aspect in a brief product catalog listing.
For the experienced, the nature of the PICAXE is widely known, and for the newcomer, the linked data sheet explains the BASIC language aspect of the part.
Besides, now you've mentioned it, so all those people who buy parts without knowing anything about them or reading the datasheets beforehand are good to go! ;^)
Regards.
Very nice kit. The board is awesome. Nice!
will this run on windows 7?
I have one and yes, it does. I recommend that you download the newer software from revolution education, which manufactures picaxe.
I like the fact that the software works on Windows 95 i've got an old 95 laptop with serial that i'd love to put to use!
