Replacement:DEV-10516 and DEV-10515. We've split the bobbin and protoboard into separate products. This page is for reference only.
This is dual-purpose bobbin with 30ft of high quality 4-ply conductive thread. Once the thread is gone, the bobbin doubles as a small LilyPad Protoboard. We created this small bobbin to help people get into wearable electronics without the upfront cost of buying an entire spool of thread. 10 feet of thread is enough to get a simple design stitched onto your shirt, backpack or hat.
All of the pins on the bobbin protoboard are shorted together with 10mil traces. This allows for quick and easy prototyping - all you have to do is cut the traces between holes you don't want connected! Pins are spaced by a standard, 0.1" pitch.
LilyPad is a wearable e-textile technology developed by Leah Buechley and cooperatively designed by Leah and SparkFun. Each LilyPad was creatively designed to have large connecting pads to allow them to be sewn into clothing. Various input, output, power, and sensor boards are available. They're even washable!
Note: A portion of this sale is given back to Dr. Leah Buechley for continued development and education of e-textiles.

How do you cut traces?
an exacto knife or razor blade works well.
I bought this just to try out stitching the tip of my glove so that I could use all my touchscreen devices. I was amazed. Not only did it take only seconds to stitch a few loops into the finger tip and thumb for instant iPod access with my gloves on, but the thread feels almost like embroidery thread.
This is a great product!
I'm not sure I understand what the Lillypad is for... If I sew the thread onto gloves it will allow me to use my iPhone by itself right?
Yep! If you just sew a few stitches of conductive thread into the exposed fingertip of your glove, that'll do the trick.
The description states both 30 feet and 10 feet. Could you clarify?
It comes with 30 feet, but 10 feet is good enough for most small projects. Does that make sense? We're just trying to give some idea of what 30 feet can be used for.
Are lilypad boards moisture resistant?
