I recommend anyone not forced to purchase this to seriously consider the Arduino first. Search for "Stamp Activity Kit - Serial" on this site and read my comment there. Believe me I'm looking out for you. If you purchase the Arduino and are worried about the learning curve try Sparkfun forums, everyone there is extremely friendly, helpful and usually prompt.
