I do love taking things apart. It was interesting to see how the pump functions. I encourage people to try incorporating one into your next project!

Need to dispense a specific amount of liquid, but don't want the liquid contaminated with a nasty old pump? Why not try the Bartendro, an Arduino-controller peristaltic pump? You can talk to it with a simple serial interface to precisely dispense 1mL at a time.

If you have a Beaglebone Black, you might be interested in the Proto Cape for working on your next design. This cape gives you access to all gpio available on the BeagleBone Black. There are also two red LED’s available for user applications. The included EEPROM lets the user prototype cape description files, which are used by the BeagleBoard Foundation to register boards.

The MiniGen Signal Generator is a small shield for the Arduino Pro Mini that is capable of generating sine, square, or triangle waves at up to 3MHz, and approximately 1Vp-p. Though the MiniGen is technically a shield it can, in fact, operate as a stand-alone board capable of the the same functionality as it would if it were placed on top of a Pro Mini.

Everyone needs jumper wires. But sometimes when you're using a bunch of them you wish they could be a bit more tidy. We now have connected jumper wires which are grouped together to make connecting several wires at once a bit cleaner. We have them grouped with 20 cables, 6" long, and in female to female, male to male, and male to female. They can also easily be pulled apart to make whatever configuration (less than 20) that you need.

This week we also have a few production leftovers that might interest you. The first one is some ATMega2561s. These were used on our Wiring board, but we had a few extra that we don't need.

The ADNS2620 is an easy to use entry level, small form factor optical mouse sensor. This little guy is used to implement a non-mechanical tracking engine for computer mice this allows for more compact and cost-effective optical mouse designs. This was used in our optical mouse evaluation board and can be good for tracking movement on flat surfaces.

There you have it for another Friday Product post! Remember, we'll be closed on Monday for Memorial Day, but we'll be back at it next week with more new products. See you then!

Silly question, but is there a tutorial video to watch so that I can try to recreate this for fun? Let me know, thanks!

I'd like to know more about the Themal-Electric cooler. How does it work and where do you get one?

So I was poking around the sparkfun.com website source and I noticed this "snegg" javascript. I realised that if you drag the logo in the top left of the site home page, it reveals an egg that allows you to play snake. How long has this been around for, and does getting to some score make one a champion?

Way to go Ms. Pam, keep those hooligans in check! Glad they gave you a key! :)

    • Haha! Wish I could say it was easy to keep us all in check. However, it really only took about 10 seconds of them standing behind me to put my key in. lol :P

Wow, a whole ten seconds. That's some nerves of steel! Did you ever get a chance to watch the Redbot demo I did (where I held up the sign greeting you?)

        • Yes, I did! It was a friendly start to the video. Thanks again for beta testing! It is great to have feedback, so we can continue to improve our material and products. :D

Side note: I am hoping the Dalek will make appearance at AVC!

That's our goal, though I have not been able to do any of the electronics lately ... Graduating child and all. Maybe I just need to come do a solid two weeks of Hacker in Residence and knock it all out in one shot.

Robert - great teardown and explanation of the pump Nick - awesome demo of the pump capabilities

Idea - I have always wanted a product personally disassembled by our erudite host Robert. How about a simple contest - best comment gets the disassembled product and signed by Robert.*

Keep up the great work guys.

BTW, I think I just won the first 'disassembled by Robert'. And I even got the pun 'wet your appetite'.

    • I WILL TAKE APART ANYTHING YOU SEND ME!

      • BeerCannon / about 11 years ago / 1

So, if I send you an executable file you'll churn out opcodes?

      • Crawdad / about 11 years ago / 1

Yes, but will you describe it as throughly as you do with the SF products and shoot a video of it?

New video feature: Robert Dissembles ... err I mean ... Disassembles!

        ?;-)

        • If you send me something in the mail, you can also send me the length you want to video to be. Within reason, I will explain it for as long as you need. Prove me wrong.

Thanks! Sounds like fun. I'll look around the shop for something interesting.

  • "Thought the MiniGen is technically..." should that be "Though the MiniGen is technically..."

Does the optical mouse sensor work without its lens? Do you have the lenses or know where to get them?

    • MikeGrusin / about 11 years ago / 1

It does need "a" lens of some sort, but people have done interesting experiments with e.g. door peephole lenses to do long-range motion estimation for ground vehicles, quadcopters, etc. Google a bit and see what you find.
