Welcome loyal blog readers. Today we have a couple of videos, a handful of new products, and even a promo code to help you save some green. It's a good day. First, let's talk about the sale. For today only, if you use promo code JUMPSTART10 in your cart, you'll get $10 off an order of $60 or more. Pretty cool, huh? Remember, this code is good for today only and it will stop working at midnight, so get your order in quick. But you might want to check out the product post video first.

SparkFun 6 Degrees of Freedom Breakout - LSM6DS3

First up, let's look at the new LSM6DS3 breakout. The LSM6DS3 is a accelerometer and gyroscope sensor with a giant 8kb FIFO buffer and embedded processing interrupt functions, specifically targeted at the cellphone market. It's a great inexpensive 6 DoF board that's low power and easy to use.

SparkFun 9DoF IMU Breakout - LSM9DS1

If you need more freedom, check out the LSM9DS1 breakout instead. It's similar to the LSM6, but adds 3 more degrees of freedom for 9 total. Each sensor in the LSM9DS1 supports a wide spectrum of ranges. Check out the hookup guide for more information.

LIDAR-Lite v2

The LIDAR-Lite v2 is a compact high performance optical distance measurement sensor from PulsedLight. The LIDAR-Lite “Blue Label” is ideal when used in drone, robot, or unmanned vehicle situations where you need a reliable and powerful proximity sensor but don’t possess a lot of space. All you need to communicate with this sensor is a standard I2C or PWM interface. Now you can harness the power of lasers to detect objects. We've used the previous version in a couple of projects that you can check out below:

SparkFun FM Tuner Evaluation Board - Si4703

Want to play around with FM radio? The SparkFun FM Tuner Evaluation Board enables you to tune in to FM radio stations and detect and processing both Radio Data Service (RDS) and Radio Broadcast Data Service (RBDS) information. The board even does a very good job of filtering and carrier detection. It also enables data such as the station ID and song name to be displayed to the user. Check out this demo:

Lastly, we have a new SOIC to DIP adapter. SOIC packages can be a pain to deal with, but with this simple adapter, you can easily use them on a breadboard or with DIP sockets. This version of the SparkFun SOIC to DIP Adapter adapter comes as a small array of four boards. We did this because if you’re adapting one chip, you are more than likely to adapt another. The PCBs easily snap apart from each other, thanks to two crossing v-scored lines.

That's all for this week. Hopefully there's something here you can use! Don't forget the promo code and see you next week with more new products.

Nice video: I’m always weirdly excited when Friday has a classic new product post.

I noticed that the video said that 6-DOF was accelerometer + magnetometer, but the product page shows it as a accelerometer + gyro. I think it is pretty standard that the 6-DOF vs. 9-DOF is the addition of the magnetometer.

  • Yey! Classic RobC New Product video! The FM board looks interesting. (How many folks were watching for the last sign LED to misfire? I didn't see one.)
