Earlier this year, Nate created the Crowdsourcing Algorithms Challenge (aka the Speed Bag Challenge). After numerous fantastic entries, one was chosen. The winner, Barry Hannigan, was asked to write up his process involved in solving this problem. This tutorial is Barry’s winning approach to solving real-world problems even when the problem is not tangibly in front of you.

End of the day, just read this article. In a word: OutStanding! Yeah, maybe that was two words.
Barry's write up is right up there in quality with Jim Williams (R.I.P.) apnotes he wrote for Linear Technology! I recommend that anyone interested in this stuff print it to pdf and read it at least once a year. As I read through it, I found myself saying "I hope he covers such and such" and a page or two later, he did. THIS STUFF is what has replaced analog electronics; I'm an analog dog from way back but since everything is done with micro-controllers these days, you need to know how the tools of the trade work and Barry has shown the way. Input/output, filters, math, signal processing, using tools to get the job done, integer math, and on and on.
Plus: what a great write up. It's one thing to understand it and do it; it's another thing to communicate it to the rest of us and Barry did just that.
So: thank you to Barry, thank you to Nate and thank you to Sparkfun: keep doing what you do!!!!!
