10 minutes go by pretty quick...get it while you can!
Update 11:20 am MT: And it's over! Everything appears to have processed through just fine. We will be building your orders in the coming days and weeks. We will be writing a recap in the next week or two explaining everything that happened. Thank you everyone in taking part!
Today is Wednesday, September 13, 2017. Today is Dumpster Dive. Today at 10 a.m. Mountain Time, we will be opening the flood gates for you to get a chance to purchase your very own Dumpster Dive box. You will only have 10 minutes to successfully purchase your box, but we will be building to order this year, so as long as you get an order in it will be fulfilled in the order it was received. It may take a bit of time to process each order but we do intend to begin fulfilling orders within 30 days of today.
Want to rummage through the SparkFun dumpster? We have a lot of products that we either can't or won't sell for various reaso…
Please remember, the Dumpster Dive is a gamble, and the contents are **not **guaranteed. We will not provide tech support or returns on any of the goods, since many are not products we ever supported, or might be returns with unknown defects. Every box will still have many usable parts. If you are looking for fully functioning, well-documented goods, we would advise against participating in Dumpster Dive.
The Dumpster Dive box will appear retired and unavailable to "add to cart" until 10 a.m. MT! Let's go over the rules one last time:
Recap:
We will be providing updates once this hullabaloo is over just to make sure everyone is in the know. Have a great day, and happy diving!
Got mine! Now to sit by the front door waiting for the delivery guy :D
Though I have to say, upgrading your website to handle all the traffic was a little anti-climactic. During Almost Free Day I was biting my nails the whole time waiting for the site to load, then to complete my order(s), all the while hoping I'd snag something but not really knowing for sure until it was all over.
This time I just clicked a few buttons and it was all over. Where's the DRAMA? ;-)
***Since they are building to order it is likely that is why this is a BACKORDER.. go ahead and get it****
Got one without the website imploding. Yay!
what will the "very cheap price" be?
A Dumpster Dive box will be $15.00 USD this year.
It's all over. For those who feel bad about missing out on buying someone else's garbage, I've got plenty I'm willing to sell at $30/lb plus shipping. The electronics ranges from 1927 to today and the cat hair is free.
Let me know :-)
Got one. Hoping for some good junk...
Ordered.. nice and quick.. no website crash this time!
I'm only getting a Backorder button... :-(
You can still order it. Click "backorder"
Yup, since it is build to order, you are essentially back ordering it.
Ok. I guess I didn't realize that.
Done and ordered. Order placed at 10:04:15AM
Drat. I did not realize that.
Where will the link / item be? The home page? Don't want to miss out. :-)
The link is on the home page but can also be found here!
Thanks. Got my refresh button on standby for 11AM CST - 13 minutes from now! Make sure you choose a good picker person for me. :-)
Yay!
Double yay!
Yay! Third year's a charm! Finally got one.
Snap* I missed out on this because of hurricane irma. Just got power back last night and internet back today.
Crap, was busy driving 17 hours home after Hurricane Irma :(
Missed it. Disappointed as the time was clearly indicated as Mountain Standard Time (MST is UTC -7:00 and does not change for Daylight Savings), but they actually had it at Mountain Daylight Time (MDT is UTC - 6:00) so it looks like I'm an hour late.
Please contact our Customer Service team. They will be able to help you out. :)
I got mine. Good luck for the rest. Yes, go ahead and BACKORDER it.
I think I got one not sure but I also had a backorder button but I had a box in the shopping cart... still "processing' the order...
You did the right thing. It was showing as "processing" while our system caught up to the influx of orders. :)
At 10:00 it went from retired to back-order? Is that what it should have done? No way every box was bought up in a split second unless they had 3. I bought anyways
Thinking about it as an outsider, it actually makes sense to do it as a back order. Otherwise they would have to make up a number for "in-stock quantity" that might or might not be enough to cover all the orders.
You did the correct thing, Trea.
You are correct, Sem. We wanted to try the build to order route this year to make sure everyone got a chance at the Dumpster Dive. Once all the back orders came in we knew exactly how to plan and time out building each kit.
Gone at 10:08
Logged in at 8:01 PST and no link to purchase.
As the post says:
Mountain and Pacific are only an hour apart, so you are looking for 9am in your time zone (approx 47 minutes from the time of this comment).
My bad.
Now it shows them on back order?
Correct! Since we are building them to order we don't have any prebuilt.
Thanks @xtopher
No problemo!
