Today, we're adding two new types of boards to the MicroMod product line that will allow you to better customize a project for non-I2C based peripherals with out any soldering whatsoever! Function Boards provide more specific purposes than Carrier Boards while being able to be hot-swapped based on what you need for your project. Meanwhile, Main Boards allow you to host Processor Boards and up to two Function Boards (depending on the Main Board) while still allowing you to connect USB-C, Qwiic, and a LiPo battery. Don't worry, everything still operates with the tried and true M.2 standard that MicroMod has been using since day one, so all of the Processor Boards you already own will still work with these new Main Boards. To make it even easier, all Function Boards utilize the same M.2 standard. Let's jump in and take a closer look.
These MicroMod Main Boards are specialized Carrier Boards that allow you to interface a MicroMod Processor Board with either one or up to two MicroMod Function Boards. With the M.2 MicroMod connector, connecting your Processor and Function Boards is a breeze. Simply match up the key on your board's beveled edge connector to the key on the M.2 connector and secure the boards with screws.
The SparkFun MicroMod ESP32 Function Board adds additional wireless options to MicroMod Processor Boards that do not have that capability. This special function board acts as a co-processor that takes advantage of Espressif's ESP32 WROOM to add WiFi and Bluetooth® to your applications.
The SparkFun MicroMod DA16200 Function Board adds a fully integrated WiFi module with a 40MHz crystal oscillator, 32.768KHz RTC, Lumped RF filter, 4MB flash memory, and an on-board chip antenna to any MicroMod project. With the addition of JTAG connectors for deep dive programming, you have everything you need to get your MicroMod setup ready for your next IoT project.
The SparkFun MicroMod LoRa Function Board provides LoRA and LoRaWAN capabilities to your MicroMod project. It is intended to be used in conjunction with a MicroMod Processor Board and a MicroMod Main Board, which provides the electrical interface between a processor board and the Function Board(s).
The SparkFun MicroMod Environmental Function Board adds additional sensing options to the MicroMod Processor Boards. This Function Board includes three sensors to monitor air quality (SGP40), humidity & temperature (SHTC3), and CO2 concentrations (STC31) in your indoor environment. To make it even easier to use, all communication is over the MicroMod's I2C bus.
That's it for this week. As always, we can't wait to see what you make. Shoot us a tweet @sparkfun, or let us know on Instagram, Facebook or LinkedIn. Please be safe out there, be kind to one another, and we'll see you next week with even more new products!
