Use Your Free Day Credit!

Reminder to use your Free Day credit by March 13th!

Favorited Favorite 0

In case you missed it, on January 13th, SparkFun sponsored what we call "Free Day" - a day on which we give away a whole bunch of credit to the SparkFun website. This year we gave a touch over $150,000 to customers and $22,988 to charities.

When we did this event last year, it was required that users spend their credit the day of Free Day. This year, we tried something a little bit different and made the credit good for 60 days after Free Day. So right now, we are sitting at 42 A.F.D. (that's 42 days After Free Day) which means you have - let me do some quick math here - 18 more days to use your Free Day credit. That's March 13th - so get those carts ready to go! Happy shopping!

If what's in the video shows how our orders are actually filled, I'm surprised you guys are still in business! :-)

I've been meaning to pick up one of the new Arduino Unos, but they've been out of stock every time I look, can I back-order with Free Day funds?

  • 17 more days now...

I missed Free Day both my first year joining and Free Day this year, though I have followed Sparkfun for several years now. But I don't know how to redeem my Free Day credit for being a second- year member. How do I get $20 worth of stuff in my cart?

If you missed Free Day then you have no credit. You would have needed to have logged in on Free Day and either taken the quiz for a chance at $10 x 10, or taken the automatic $10 x years option. Either way, you would have received a promo code which you could use until March 13. Sorry you missed it.

Oh well, I guess that makes sense. Thanks for your help!

And all unused credit will be available to other customers the next day? :P

I don't think the contest is very fair and I don't feel respected as a customer to have to sit at the keyboard for hours because it makes me feel like a beggar because the goal is trying to get something without paying for it. I'm not one who benefits from the contests so it is Sparkfun's enjoyment and they are getting a free day of advertising while other people work for nothing. The fact that all the customers didn't win means that all customers aren't treated equally.

I have to agree with Scube. This is no worse than paying the state lotto, except instead of paying a buck a ticket you paid a few hours of your life for $10 to $100. the odds of winning are all dependent of the bandwidth of a dozen servers you get routed through, so you cant really blame Sparkfun because your one of the few hundred thousand people who tried and failed.

The only thing i can tell you is, if you dont like free day... dont participate. Its hard for me to understand how someone can complain about it. What is anyone (except sparkfun) out? A little time hitting F5. If you cant afford the time dont do it, but why complain?

You guys should do a post about bildr. I think you had one in the past, but bildr has come a long way since then. They have some great tutorials for your products, but I feel like only a small portion of sparkfunions know about bildr.

Shows you how to get started with the cool stuff you get from sparkfun. They have very simple tutorials on several sparkfun products. They should get you up and running pretty quickly.

How do I find out how much credit I have?

    • macboy / about 14 years ago / 1

If you actually participated and know that you have credit, then you can load up your cart and click checkout (don't worry, you don't need to actually place an order). If you have a Free Day promo code waiting to be used, it will appear within the payment options on the right side. You can also manually enter a Free Day code, as they are transferable to anyone.

How do you know how much Free Day credit you have?
I missed Free day and would like to take advantage of the 18 days left.

    • If you missed Free Day, you don't have any credit. You had to physically get on and either take the quiz or redeem your loyalty credit in order to get anything. The 18 days is for those who participated in Free Day.

  • On a somewhat related note: Is SparkFun working on any shipping deals with FedEx? I LOVE your products, but the cost of shipping to Canada is really deterring me from ordering more.

    • sephers / about 14 years ago / 1

I once placed an order to the uk (granted its a bit further away) with UPS and it got lost, if you're having it shipped internationally I'd go with FedEx, but Canada is closer so you never know...

    • Erik-Sparkfun / about 14 years ago / 1

There will be more shipping options soon. Can't promise you it will get any cheaper for you personally, though, unfortunately.

      • :'( Any possibility on deals for orders over a certain amount? You know, "Free shipping on orders over $200" or something?

which means you have - let me do some quick math here - 18 more >days to use your Free Day credit.
So, is there script to auto countdown the days in your post? Or will I log in next week and view that post thinking I have - let me do some quick math here - 18 more days to use my Free Day credit :-)

    • I will manually update this post every day for the next 18 days! (Just kidding)
Maybe I should add some kind of disclaimer! :)

Both of the previous Free Days I've spent from the first minute it's opened right until it's closed trying to get an order through... SF is so cool for doing this, what a neat promotion.. Maybe next time I'll manage to place an order!! ;)

:( me to woke up 30 minutes to late.

      • EvilGenius121 / about 14 years ago / 1

I was waiting for it for the start and it took a good 1.5 hr to get anything relevant onscreen.

        • I was watching the banner, all ready with my cart, logged in, etc. and then when it started, I got kicked out of my account, 1.7 hours to get logged in again :'^(.
