Check out the new products for the week and see what our roof looks like.

Hello everyone and welcome to another Friday New Product Post. This week we have even more new products and a video within a video.

Before we get to the post I'd like to tell everyone that we've been doing a bit of spring cleaning. We found a lot of products that were retired but we still had a few left. We decided to go ahead and sell these at a discount. If you check out the sale category, you can see we've added quite a few new products. Get them before they're gone!

You can check out the Vimeo version here. We were trying to really think of a good way to test the camera, but couldn't come up with much other than the obvious (sticking it to an RC airplane). Throwing it from the roof with grocery bags attached with alligator clips was one of those rare moments when a 'proof of concept' works significantly better than you thought. Surprisingly, I don't think we could have came up with a better parachute system.

So you built a vehicle. That's rad. But what if you want to see what it sees? The FlyCamOne eco V2 is a small embeddable video camera that records directly to a MicroSD card and is easily controlled by your RC radio receiver. The video quality is about the level of a webcam or cell phone.

You've asked for it, and here it is, the MPU-6050 breakout board. We kept it simple and provided you with mounting holes, all the pins broken out and labeled so you can start fusing your sensor data. The MPU-6050 is a triple axis gyro and accelerometer that allows for the integration of a magnetometer for a whole lot of DoFs in a small package.

We have these new pigtails which work with our RGB LED strips. They are 4-pin JST SM connectors and they lock in place nicely. They make using the LED strips a lot easier.

That's all we've got this week. A large shipment just showed up today so I know we'll have even more stuff next week. Thanks for reading and we'll see you back again next week.

Just an FYI, 720x480 is not 720p but 480p. Neat camera though, it may find use in a project of mine.

  • I liked the video. I thought that the issues with the camera should have been put on a different video and placed on that products page and rather just mentioned that there were some issues and its on the product page. For people who really have no interest, we just want to get on with the next new product.

Just some feedback! I like the longer videos though.

720p starts at 1280x720, the FlyCamOne is just above VGA resolution at 720x480

Wonders what SparkFun will do for April fools this year...

You should try putting that video camera into the nose cone of an Estes rocket.

First off, your t-shirt was very distracting. Second, was that an IR light blinking on the camera?

At 0:31 he says that you can do "real-time footage." Am I missing something? I'm not seeing any kind of transmitter, nor even a composite video out to send to a TV or transmitter.

nice A little too expensive for me since i'm an eighth grader, but would be great on my rockets.

Love the "clearing of the table" and the "I'm done with this new product, now chuck it". That's funny, I don't care who you are.

How about walking in backwards and going out backwards. Comedic Gold!

Next he's got to kick it up a notch. Film the entire new product post BACKWARDS as a ten minute long sight-gag. The whole time lip-synching to a reversed audio track so it'll all match up when you reverse it.

Now if we had a still 1080p camera... or maybe a 2560x1536 over JPEG...

Megapixels is not the ultimate solution. More than a higher resolution sensor, we should pray for low-light gain, infrared sensitivity, self-cleaning lens, and so on...

  • Is it just me or is that RC camera WAY too complicated?

    • It's not really... updating the firmware isn't intuitive, but using it is SIMPLE. just turn it on and press a button. really, it's easy once you get it updated and such.

you guys should carry 808 cameras!

The camera have an auto focus? At 5:30 it looks like IR pulses are coming out of it. Or maybe it's just reflections from the overhead lights?

      It goes crazy at 9:02

heck with the shirt, the camera blinking is still driving me nuts.

Maybe the product camera is polarized, and the recording camera we're watching is switching polarity rapidly, and it's going in and out of phase.

      Must..figure..out...

i think the table is just rocking and your seeing a reflection off a light in the room.

Maybe, if the video was edited out of sequence. From what I see, he doesn't even turn the unit on until 5:36.

First, that was an awesome video. Second, excellent hack with the grocery bags. Third, thanks for the laughs.
