Check out a couple of videos of SparkFun's recent soldering competition!
Back at the end of April, the SparkFun Production Department held the first-ever SparkFun Soldering Competition. The event took place at Oskar Blues Home Made Liquids and Solids in Longmont and invited competitors to put their irons to the test to see who really is the fastest solderer in the West. Today we have a couple videos to recap the event. Check them out!
You can check out the Vimeo version of the above video here. We also have a video put together by the folks over at Engineering TV - give it a look as well!
Thanks to everyone who came to the event, both participants and spectators alike - it was an awesome time! We'd also like to thank Oskar Blue's for providing us with such a great venue! Cheers!
What software do you use to make those awesome pictures? I mean that doctor on there, and the ones on the page links.
MS Paint
Haha!, Weak.
The "solder-bike racer" was created using GIMP (free software) and a Wacom tablet
Thanks for your fast reply.
Actually, I used Adobe Illustrator to create the "Soldergeon" graphic. Neat stuff - glad it was well received!
It's great!
I'm not going to watch this video. All I need are more feelings of inadequacy about my soldering skills.
I guess no one won the event or do we have to wait till another day?
For some reason there was no video footage of the 1st place winner (Thad) OR the awesome traveling trophy we built up for the 1st place prize.
The winners were:
1st Place - Thad Larson - 23:20 2nd Place - John Sherohman - 24:16 3rd Place - Matthew Capron - 31:45
We also gave out some special awards. The winners of these were:
Quality Award - Amie Paxton Safety 3rd - Jessica Campbell Style Award - Andrew Zirger Best BYO Equipment - Aaron Rogers Ugliest Solder Joints - Eileen Egger
Thanks I sure would have loved to have been there, but it is way to far. I vote for a Florida event in the future.
That was a fun competition. I was there as a spectator (being an engineer in a field that doesn't let you do much soldering), and watching the heats and talking to competitors on techniques was awesome. The door prizes were awesome (I won an Arduino PTH kit, which I soldered and promptly gave to a co-worker who is now a SFE customer).
I commend the Oskar Blues waiters and waitresses on an excellent job. They did well with so many people, especially the ones who were drinking. The next time any of you SFE-Heads are at Oskar Blues, give your waiter/waitress a little extra tip, they deserve it.
Lastly, I commend and congratulate all of the SFE employees who put this on. It ran smoothly, and I would very impressed. To Nate: You hired some awesome people!
Keep up the great work!
Give-aways means more addicts/customers! I can testify to that:)
