bildr (not "Bildr") is a self-described "community of makers, artists, designers, and builders focused on simplifying the world of electronics DIY by modularizing information. Instead of showcasing users' projects, we offer bite-size, easy-to-follow articles that help you hit the ground running." Today, bildr has created dozens of tutorials that explain topics like using push buttons, distance sensing, and much more. It is a great site and a wonderful resource for budding electronics enthusiasts. Recently, Adam Meyer (founder of bildr) sent us over a poster of SparkFun images he has created for the site. Check it out:

  • Oh Geez. If I knew it was going to go on the blog, I would have spent more time on it. Here is a PDF of it if you would like: http://bildr.org/share/sparkfunPoster.pdf

High resolution (as in: vector) for the win - good job :)

That means it'll still look good when I blow it up to 1000% and use it as wallpaper for my workroom.

  • Hey! What are these new .csv and .json API like thingys on the product pages?!? Awesome addition, IT guys!

Oh! I hadn't noticed those - I guess I haven't perused the SparkFun HTML source lately. Thanks for pointing that out!

Yeah, they're quite shiny - been using them for an IRC bot :) One note: The root.eta (expected time to be back in stock?) value lies. Not sure if it's legacy, or incorrectly exposed from internals, but at least at this time they're all set at 4-6 weeks even for completely discontinued products :)

Looking at the new products, I am greatly looking forward to tomorrows new product post. You have some very nice electronics entering your catalog.

Wouldn't learn.sparkfun.com be, in a way, competing against bildr in tutorials and material for people to use?

Also, so far I just see Arduino tutorials and articles... I wish people would take a challenge and not use Arduino in a project and write an article about it.

    • "Competing" - I mean, in the strict definition of the word, maybe. But we have a great relationship with Adam and bildr. I'd say it's more like collaborating. We actually host some of his SparkFun images on the learn site. We don't really care where people get the material, as long as they are learning and having a good time.

And yeah, people tend to gravitate towards Arduino, especially beginners. Which makes sense for a site like bildr who is trying to simplify electronics for novices.

I wish people would take a challenge and not use Arduino in a project and write an article about it.

Sounds like someone is volunteering... :)

sgrace did tell me he'd write a tutorial one of these days...

I am writing one right now!

I got another one planned for the weekend using FPGAs (Zynq to be specific since I have the hardware).

For some reason, when I think about "competition" in the maker community, I get this image of a bunch of people all playing hacky sack. To win, everybody gets together and makes and sells awesome stuff, and somehow the world is a better place. (Also a lot of the guys have righteous beards, mustaches and hats.)
