RFID Tag - Transparent MIFARE Classic® 1K (13.56 MHz)

This is a basic RFID tag that functions within the MIFARE Classic® 1K guidelines. You can use these for all sorts of identification and sensing applications. The tag also has 1K of data storage which can be read and written from a compatible device. Check the related products below.

This tag is transparent and has a diameter of 25mm and an overall thickness of about 0.7mm. It works with MIFARE® 13.56 MHz compatible readers.

The MIFARE Classic® card is fundamentally just a memory storage device, where the memory is divided into segments and blocks with simple security mechanisms for access control. They are ASIC based and have limited computational power. Thanks to their reliability and low cost, these tags are widely used for electronic wallet, access control, corporate ID cards, transportation or stadium ticketing.

These tags are NFC capable!

I am trying to read and write with my Nexus 4 (Android 4.2.1) but with no luck. Using the NXP writer app (similar messages are shown with other apps) I get: "The item is used, blocked or not supported and cannot contain a NFC data set". Any insight is appreciated.

Just wanted to share a little warning. I bought these to experiment with the NFC capabilities of my vzw galaxy nexus, but apparently theres a bug in android 4.0 that does not allow you to format non-pre-formatted MIFARE classic 1k/ultralight/ultralight c RFIDs. Just received my order today so I have researched it too much but thought prospective buyers should know.

If anyone has anything that could help me out that would be appreciated.

We've had great luck with Remote Identity (http://www.remoteidentity.com) for a wider variety of tags and they are capable of handling larger order quantities as well.

Saw a couple of comments on here. To clarify the "MIFARE" 13.56MHz tags do not work with the ID-12 readers. The ID-12 readers only work on the 125KHz tags. To work with these Mifare 13.56MHz tags you need to use the http://www.sparkfun.com/products/10126 Module or similar.

Is this tag flexible to any kind of Frequency? We want a tag for 13.56 MHz freq reader so will it be able to work properly?

  • LeadFree / about 14 years ago / 1

Does this work with the ID-12?

    • hads / about 14 years ago / 1

No, the ID12 is a 125KHz reader and this is a 13.56 MHz tag.

      • LeadFree / about 14 years ago / 1

Does that mean none of the MIFARE tags will work with the ID 12? I saw a video on sparkfun where one of the tags was used with the ID 12 and assumed all were similar. It will be helpful if the frequency is mentioned in the description of the tags.

    "Wrote" should be "written".
