Breadboard - Translucent Self-Adhesive (Red)

Description: How could anyone improve on the clear plastic breadboard. I mean, that's pretty sweet right?

What if it was red?

This translucent red breadboard is probably the coolest looking regular, solderless breadboard there is. It has 2 power buses, 30 columns, and 10 rows - a total of 400 tie in points. All pins are spaced by a standard 0.1". The two sets of five rows are separated by about 0.3", perfect for straddling a DIP package over. The board accepts wire sizes in the range of 29-20AWG.

This board also has a self-adhesive on the back. The boards also have interlocking parts, so you can hook as many together as you'd like.

Dimensions: 3.29 x 2.15 x 0.33" (83.5 x 54.5 x 8.5mm)

Now all we need is a Translucent blue and Translucent green one.

Blue. Calming while looking at tiny parts for 12 hours.

  • The fact that the bus strips are not in line with the terminal strips is annoying to me. On the other hand, red is awesome!

I've seen this offset on other breadboards as well - seems to be purposeful

One the one hand, I can relate to annoyance at trival details (this happens to me as well). On the other hand, I really can't think of many instances where the offset would matter much. Off-hand the only things I can think of in a package where the offest would matter that could usefully be tied directly to a terminal strip would be DIP switchs or maybe a resistor network...

In any case, I am in unqualified agreement about the awesomeness of red!:)

Can you make a pink one please? Translucent or solid is fine.

My older students comment that it's really hard to see small parts on both the clear and red translucent breadboards. Tough to make sure component leads end up where you want them to go. Any chance for a traditional white one in this size?

  • This + this =TOTAL AWESOMENESS!!!!!!1!!1111!!!!!!

My design teachers taught that every material will show you its true nature if you let it. Well, this is the true nature of plastic. Thanks for allowing it to shine!

  • Someone tell me how you’re supposed to use this… I think I need one but I don’t know how to use these.

Everybody needs a breadboard - but if you're not sure how to use it, you may wish to start here: wikipedia:Breadboard.

Personally I wouldn't go with this red, unless you really like the color (and I suspect you'd find greater affinity with a green one), and instead go with the more common white, and wouldn't be stingy about it; the 'translucent white' listed in the related products below, for example, does have a number of comments that indicate greater quality is to be had from brand name breadboards.

If you do get a breadboard, check out SparkFun's breadboard-related products - the breadboard power supplies, for example, should prove to be very useful :)

Once one sticks this board onto the holder, can one safely get it off? I would like to flip it around.

    • You probably could, but I would recommend trying to use some adhesive remover. Which would then also probably require then gluing or taping the board down. In other words, yes, most likely, but it's going to be a pain.

Alas, I can't see the black lettering. Perhaps White would be nice.

These should solve all the issues that the clear boards have with being confusing on seeing what is what and where its running. plus its sparkfun red what more do can you ask for! I have 2 clear ones already I think im going to have to pick up a couple of these too.

  • You should note to users that, while it will accept 20 AWG it is not recommended. Using 20 AWG will stretch out the metal retainer clips and basically ruin the breadboard. That is what happened to mine.

  • Awesome!!

Great good looking board

Looks great mounted on a Sparkfun breadboard holder with the new Arduino Zero.
