SparkFun SOT23 to DIP Adapter

6 pin SOT-23 to DIP adaptor. Created to take SOT23 of various pin sizes breakout to DIP. This will work with 3-pin MOSFETs, BJTs, Voltage Regulators (SOT-23-5), and various other Micro6, Micro5, etc packages.

DIP width is 0.300" (300mil) and will fit nicely into any breadboard or DIP socket. 40 Pin break-away headers are perfect for use with these custom PCBs. Machine pin headers may be a better option for IC sockets. Pad layout fits all standard SOT23 packages including:

  • SOT-23
  • SOT-23-3
  • SOT-23-6
  • Micro3
  • 5-MicroSMD
  • All other similar SOT23 packages
  • 0.34x0.46"

This needs a marker for a pin #1. Once an SOT23-6 chip gets covered in solder paste, the writing wipes off, and you cannot tell which side is up/pin#1 by looking at the chip.

I've taken to marking a pin #1 by notching a corner edge with a triangular file. Too bad I now have to desolder two chips so I can use this properly.

Aside from this, the boards are super handy for SOT23-6 chips.

What was the answer to the question about the RGB SMD 5050 and this board?

  • Member #462962 / about 11 years ago / 1

I'm really surprised that there is no PIN 1 dot on the silk screen. That seems like it would be an obvious need. Some of my pin 1 marks are light enough I have to look under the scope to make sure. I have to dot all mine with silver sharpie.

I need them for some Mosfet gate drivers in R&D project

When will these become available again? I'm in the middle of building a prototype under a time deadline and will soon be in urgent need of these.
    Thanks

same problem here, on Jan 17th they said a little over a month... just have to me patient...

will this work for an RGB SMD 5050?

    • Member #448545 / about 10 years ago / 1

Did you get an answer to this about the RGB SMD 5050?

      • Kamiquasi / about 10 years ago / 1

Much too late for 32teeth, but to answer the same question for you: No, this will not work for a 5050 SMD LED.

Here's a picture showing the LED - SMD RGB as placed on top of this board: imgur.com/87moU40

Suffice it to say that the 5050 is a fair bit larger than the SOT32 pads on this board, and what little overlap there is would not be reliable for getting good solder joints.

worked great

I needed on a prototype circuit with a small SOT23 package voltage regulator and this item was exactly what I needed to test it out on a breadboard. I'm glad this adapter was available!

Very handy adapter!!

I found these adapters awhile back and they have saved me many hours of micro-white wiring. Currently I am using this adapter to test multiple temp sensors. We may even incorporate these into the product during it early stages.

Thanks for having the right stuff when I need it!

Did what it said it would!

I purchased extra devices and adapters in order to practice, and needed them. Worked under a magnifier. Lost one 2 dollar device when it popped off - no way to find something so small on the floor. Had to re-solder a couple that passed visual inspection the first time. Lots of solder management needed, a little bit goes a long way. It was easy to fill up the pin holes while soldering the device, making it hard to add the pins later. Next round I'll add the pins first, and use a small breadboard to hold everything in place while I work.

Right adaptor at right time

Extremely helpful SMT to DIP adaptor that allow fast system upgrade without PCB re-layout

Comes in really handy

Just the thing for when you don't want to solder wires directly onto SOT23 pins.
