BeagleBone Black Enclosure - Clear Plastic

The BeagleBone Black is a great credit-card-sized development platform with a fast growing community, why would you not want to keep your board safe and sound inside this clear plastic enclosure? These cases protect your BeagleBone Black from things like rogue wires that might short it out while still allowing full access to the board! Simply snap the BBB into the bottom half of the enclosure, then snap the two sides together.

As you may have noticed, these enclosures are actually transparent. The enclosures are perfect for letting you see your BeagleBone and make any needed adjustments easily.

The enclosure provides slots to access each header, USB ports, power jack, ethernet jack, power buttons, MicroHDMI, MicroSD card, as well as feet and vents to ensure the board gets proper cooling and slide-in wall mounting slots. All of the status LEDs on the BeagleBone Black are visible through the case thanks to light pipes embedded in the design. This is a really durable case that will do a great job protecting your BeagleBone Black!

Received this today and am very happy that it fits the Rev C and that no metal standoffs (or any standoffs) are required, the Beaglebone snaps into the bottom piece perfectly. I'm not as happy that the top of the case does not snap into place with the bottom, and requires tape to keep it securely closed. The description clearly says "...then snap the two sides together." But even though there are a total of 4 snap features (2 per side), they don't snap into the little holes that they are supposed to.

Despite this, I do like the flexibility of being able to more easily open the case to remove the Beaglebone board, rather than wresting with a clear and seamless edge, trying to break it out of its plastic jail.

My case did not have this problem. You may want to ask for a replacement.

Does this also come with the button pusher you demonstrated on the Yun and Uno cases?

    • Member #691629 / about 9 years ago * / 1

I thought mine didn't come with a button pusher ("reset key") but it does, actually; it was wedged in the bottom of the box that the case came in.

    • Yes, mine came with a button pusher.

Also, can it fit a cape directly through the case? (CryptoCape for example?)

  • Does this case fit the Rev C?

Well, I know it's been a long time and you have probably figured that out. Yes it fits, but the uHDMI connector and the USB Host ports are not well exposed. These ports remain some millimeters inside the plastic case making a huge difference for some connectors. With my HDMI cable for instance I couldn't get it attached to the uHDMI port up to the end. At first glance it looked connected though and before realizing there was a gap I went on a painful research on why my hdmi wasn't working...

      • I have had a lot of problems connecting to the HDMI and USB ports at the same time. The connectors on the two cables push against each other so much that the electrical connection is broken. Do you know of a good cable combo for using both ports at once?

Just got mine today. Yes it fits both revision B and C.

Well-made, aesthetically appealing clear case

Pros: This BeagleBone Black case made by SB Components is sturdy, aesthetically appealing, and perfectly fits my BBB revision C. The mini-USB port is slightly oversized to accommodate large-ended plugs. The lid has light pipes for the LEDs and paperclip holes for pressing the buttons on the board. It also provides some ventilation; with the lid on and no capes, a 100% loaded CPU runs about 45°C above the ambient air temperature.

Cons: The lid's light pipes work best if they are directly over the LEDs, but on mine they're just slightly to one side. I carefully bent them into a better position with my finger, but this audibly stressed them and still didn't result in a perfect alignment. The clear plastic around the top of the pipes also diffracts the light somewhat, making it hard to tell which ones are actually on or off. These are very minor nitpicks, though.

Other user comments mentioned problems with the fit of the lid, but this was not an issue on mine. The lid is made to be easily popped on and off, so it doesn't lock in place, but it surely won't fall off if turned upside-down or vibrated. As for comment regarding the lack of room around the micro HDMI and regular USB ports. I have yet to verify, but it does look like this may still be an issue.

Overall, though, I'm very happy with this well-made and mostly well-designed case.
