This assortment of tools is great for those hackers who need a portable tool assembly with plenty of room to add your own. We've found our favorite, low-cost and easy to transport tools, and created a kit that we would give to our local hacker friends. While these tools might not be enough for more heavy duty use, they should be just what you need for a project on the go.
This time around we've kitted all the tools together in our handy SparkFun Roll Up Tool Bag. This kit is great if you are wanting to go to your local hacker space but desire the ease of using your own tools. So get out there, go hack something!
Whether it's for assembling a kit, hacking an enclosure, or creating your own parts; the DIY skill is all about knowing how to use tools and the techniques associated with them.
Skill Level: Noob - Basic assembly is required. You may need to provide your own basic tools like a screwdriver, hammer or scissors. Power tools or custom parts are not required. Instructions will be included and easy to follow. Sewing may be required, but only with included patterns.

It's great item to have to move your equipment easily thank you so much.
Stay great
Holds all my specific soldering and small SMT tools I need when I'm in the field. Great kit. Highly recommend.
I was very impressed with the quality of the wire strippers, the flush cutters, the hobby knife, and the curved tweezers. The solder vacuum seems nice, but I haven't tried it yet. The screwdriver and pliers are very cheaply made, but they work. The straight cross-lock tweezers didn't close all the way, and don't have a super fine tip, but after some bending and filing they basically work. Kind of interesting mix of quality, but a good value.
Now for the robot that cleans up after my weekends of hacking around on electronics and home brewing.
Pretty good price for what you get. I figure these same items at a place like Radio Shack would cost at least $110.00 even assuming a couple of items are usually on sale. I bought a vacuum from them and it was $17.99 on sale. I already have several soldering irons and most of these tools already, but I would buy this. It would be nice to have a ready to go tool roll. I would place a basic soldering iron with it and have a nice grab and go kit.
Is there a soldering iron included to go along with the solder and solder vacuum?
There isn't. We wanted to put in a portable soldering iron but the only one we have would have double the price of the kit. We are looking at different portable soldering iron options as well, but for the moment you will have to add your own soldering iron.
I was wondering the same thing. For a "beginner" or "portable" toolkit, it'd be nice to include an inexpensive fixed-temp soldering iron, especially since you're including solder and a solder vacuum.
For me, this would be something I toss in my backpack for unexpected tasks, and it wouldn't replace my main electronics bench tools.
We do have the Beginning Tool Kit as well which comes with the soldering iron, you can also get the Butane Iron.
He has a point. Chances are, if you are a "hacker" and you need these tools you probably don't have a soldering iron. When I first bought a soldering iron, I bought all of these tools knowing that was what I needed to get even the smallest job done, let alone SMD/SMT work.
I used a solder vacuum once. It picked up half of a solder blob and then jammed. I have never used one again, because I am now a solder wick bro.
Does this kit have the lead infused fabric model of the TOL-12048 case? I want the kit, but have more uranium rods than last time. Thanks!
This bag has the exact same amount of lead as the bag without the tools. We just grabbed a bag off the shelf and added some tools. You can put your uranium rods in the tool bag, but I'd then put the tool bag in a lead box.
Disclaimer: These bags do not contain lead, see link above for more information on this thread/joke. Disclaimer2:That we know of. :)
Any chance of getting just the bag? This would be perfect for collecting all the tools I already have. I'm thinking this would be nice to keep my 3d printer tools in one place.
Here you go
