Compass Module with Tilt Compensation - OS5000-S

Replacement: None. There is no direct replacement for this part but check out our magneto sensors category. This page is for reference only.

The OS5000-S is an extremely small form factor (1x1” square) three axis, tilt compensated digital compass. The flexible design uses a simple RS232 serial connection for system integration. The OS5000-S provides precise heading, roll and pitch data ideal for rapid attitude measurement. The compass offers an easy to use ASCII interface which includes hard-iron calibration and simple data configuration for your application.

  • Precision Compass:
    • 0.5 degrees nominal heading accuracy
    • 0.1 resolution
  • Roll & Pitch full rotation (<1 degree (0-60 degrees))
  • Tilt-compensated (electronically gimbaled)
  • Hard and soft-iron compensation routines
  • 3 Axis Honeywell Magneto Resistive Sensors
  • 3 Axis ST Accelerometer for Roll and Pitch Angle Measurement (Full Range)
  • Design uses 24 bit A/D converter
  • 50 MIPS processor supporting IEEE floating point math
  • RS232 Serial version - pigtail cable and CD are included!
  • 7 Pin Molex Connector for Serial Connection
  • Baud rate programmable: 4,800 to 115,000 baud
  • Low Power Circuit Consumption: 3.3V – 5V @ <30ma
  • High data update rate to 40HZ
  • Support for True or Magnetic North output
  • Operating temperature: -20C to 70C (-40C to 85C storage)
  • OS5000-S is the next generation replacement to the OS1000 Compass* 0.3x1.0x1.0”
  • Less than 2g

From the packing the version looks like 1.6?
What is the difference between 1.6 and 1.7?
    I couldn't find this info at ocean-server.com.
    Thanks

What is the firmware version for this?
    Thanks

The data sheet is a little confusing, this is NOT the TTL version, it outputs full RS232 voltages.
It works very well though, but I wouldn't use it in a UAV or on a dynamic vehicle, the readings can be thrown off because the compass is tilt compensated using accelerometers, not gyro's.
It will also measure pitch and roll 0 to 90 degrees, and can be mounted in 4 different configurations (level, upside down, sideways left, sideways right).
