FM Receiver Module

Replacement: None. We do not currently have a direct replacement for this board. We are working to get a replacement, but at this time, do not have one. This page is for reference only.

This is a very small single chip FM radio receiver module found in many portable media players. Based on the AR1010 IC from Airoha, the FM receiver uses a simple command set over an I2C or SPI interface. Crystal and supporting components are all on board, all you need to attach is an antenna!

  • 3.3V @ 11mA
  • 76-108MHz supported
  • 100mV audio output
  • Stereo output

Has anybody looked at getting this unit to receive, say, higher than 108 Mhz? Like maybe in the 144-162Mhz range?

I got the newer modules to work by changing the value of register two (R2) from 0xF4B9 to 0xD0B9.

Is anyone else having trouble with newer versions of this module? I just received some labelled A333350 / 1007DSG as opposed to the older P270361 / 0850S G and they don't seem to behave the same. In particular, using the sample code on this page, they always report a status of 0 (i.e. never initialize / calibrate). Any ideas?

I bought AR1000 sometime ago and recently wanted to play with it. Looking through the data sheet "FM Module Datasheet" and checking the module itself, I notice there are some wrong info in the data sheet. The pin 1 (referring page 3) of the module, top view; further relate to page 4, bottom view, it stated that that pin is ANT. But after checking it and verified (with interface to PIC and everything is working), that pin is actually Vcc. Did anyone notice that? I am referring to pin 1 of page 3, it should be Vcc instead of Ant.

Could i please get a sample of the C code? how would one go about getting hold of it??

I've seen the Airoha site regarding this chip (http://www.airoha.com.tw/AR1000.htm) and it seems that this IC doesn't support RDS. It's possible to have the same board with AR1200/AR1210 ICs??
I suppose that the antenna could be created on a PCB: are there any ideas about the geometry & dimensions??
    Thanks a lot,
    Settuz

Or just a module with the AR1000 instead of the AR1010. The AR1000 has RDS. Who would want to build a radio these days with RDS? :)

Wondering if anyone has tried sending data (like modem) over FM? Using the FM Radio Module Breakout Board - NS73M with this.

Looks like the example code uses internal oscillator (R01 is set to 0XFFFF). I tried to use R01 setting for external XO (0xFF7B), but it's not working. Is it by design?

Where Is the new code sample posted?

  • New example code has been posted!
Use it to test the functionality of the AR1000! have a look at the ReadMe file for more information on how to use it.
Also please note that right now the jumper on the board does not come soldered, this will change! and it will come jumpered very soon. updated pics will follow.
To use the example code, the jumper must be closed, so if you get one that is not soldered please solder it yourself or close the connection some other way.

Is this compatible though this module seems to use AR1000 with TEA5767?

    • Yea - sorry about the confusion. We got two shipments. The original shipment used the Phillips TEA5767 part. The latest shipment (and the part we will carry now on) uses the much simpler Airoha AR1000. Same I2C/SPI interface, but the command structure is slightly different.

This should probably have been a different catalog number. It would stop confusion when someone posted instructions on how to interface with your products.

Just found this Philips application note, which explains the TEA5767 functionality in detail, including the PLL tuning:

not sure about soldering it, tho. i've never seen solder pads like that. half through, half smt? i'm not equipped for smt. would this work with pins/headers?

This is great. I have been waiting for a digital FM receiver breakout. Have yet to try it but it looks promising.
