Do these have top and bottom horizontal rails (looking at the second image) like the larger conventional breadboards?

They don't, in a board this small you might as well just use a row.

These are great, but I have one question: What's the best sort of wire to use with them?
I've got some wires from an old Radio Shack kit (the ones with all the springs), but they feel a little loose.
Just wondering if there's a best gauge to use, and if tinned stranded wire is better than solid.

I've always used ethernet twisted pair plenum wire. Plenum CAT5 is 24 AWG solid, whereas the flexible stuff you have in your patch cables is stranded. A 25' piece will last you a few years.

In my experience the 22 AWG we carry works great. Also use the solid wire, the stranded doesn't work as well.

      • Yeah, definitely! I tried several times unsuccesfully to put the stranded wires from a 9v battery clip into one of these breadboards. The tinned-ness had come off, too. The Devil must have infested those wires.

  • I ment close after so but oops I screwed up.

  • I used this with the PICAxe 8 pin proto board. But it dosen't fit but it is close to but so advice, it works well to the side or posibly at thebottom of the board.
