Audio Jack Breakout

Replacement:PRT-10588. The new revision corrects the board layout so that the silkscreen is correct. This page is for reference only.

Simple breakout board for the 3.5mm audio jack. Use this breakout (shipped bare) to allow breadboard or SIP access to the super-common 3.5mm audio jack. All five pins are broken out.

****Note: ****This is for the bare PCB only.

Note: The silkscreen is incorrect. We are working on a revision. However, the board is still usable, but the labeling isn't even close to correct. Here is the correct pin labeling (from top to bottom):

• GND (Ground)
• RNG (Ring)
• RSH (Ring Shunt)
• TIP (Tip)
• TSH (Tip Shunt)

Seriously! I just ran into this issue as well. It would have been nice to have a little correction paper in the box at least.

The proper pinout from top to bottom should read:
* GND (Ground)
* RNG (Ring)
* RSH (Ring Shunt)
* TIP (Tip)
* TSH (Tip Shunt)
Basically, the only label they got right is ground.
Hey, Sparkfun, how about posting an errata here on the site and including one with your order if you buy the part? Is it really necessary to make everyone do the work of breaking out the continuity checker to determine that the board is pretty much completely mislabeled?

wendyju: This board is great, but it's important to know that the RNG (ring) and TIP are mislabelled as RSH (ring shunt) and TSH (tip shunt), respectively.

Sorry, I'm confused as to exactly what is mislabeled. Are you saying that RSH needs to be switched with RNG and TSH needs to be switched with TIP? Or am I missing something?

Thank you so much. I wish I had read this sooner. I had already soldered the board on. I guess it is time to break out the desoldering pump and wick!
