Pretty quiet around here at 7 a.m. Maybe I can whip up a quick python-fueled, Pi-based bot? Oh, yeah - hot glue features prominently in this build.
Love old gear? So do we! Here's a new video series to revel in all that's come before.
Let's look at some basic digital concepts and circuit structures to help bridge the gap between the land of the continuous and the land of the discrete.
Tired of paying The Man for your power? Before you go off-grid, this is the video you want to see. We'll give you the background on solar cell function and performance, and talk about some of the other parts you'll need to get the job done.
Care to take a peek under the hood of reality? Hall effect and Lorentz force are big news in the land of the tiny.
We tend to over-simplify the act of dropping an LED into a circuit. But do you know what all of those specs in the data sheet mean?
Heard about CAN bus but don’t know what all the hype is about? This video’s for you!
Next Fall's AVC is starting to take shape. We've seen the future, and the future is... GOATS!
Looking for a beefy, wired data bus where RF won’t cut it? We dig into RS-485 and explore how it works and why it just might be the one you need!
Without phase-locked loops, we’d all still be living in caves, just getting by with stone knives and bearskins.
In honor of last weekend's Super Bowl, we give you a slightly more techy take on games you can play with a football.
To honor our 15th anniversary, Pete digs into the electrical properties of crystals.
The convenience of advancing tech can kill a good nostalgia project...but it's not quite dead...
Harris Kenny of Aleph Objects shares some history and philosophy behind the success story that is the Lulzbot line of 3D printers.
I design and build a headphone amplifier, and go on a journey of self-discovery (and learn some hard lessons).
If the spooky messages you’re getting from beyond the grave seem vague and disjointed to you, maybe some blinky lights can help to accent the important parts. #funkydemonspeak
There's so much arguing over code on the internet. Let's try to get to the bottom of the debate.
We take a trip to check out a different version of DIY and make some new friends on the way.
Pete Dokter and Jim Lindblom tour the MIT Media Lab, as well as the greater Boston technological tundra.
We flesh out the AVC prize structure, plus the trials of Pete's first attempt at competing in the AVC.
Introducing the Antimov competition! Who can build the robot that does the most insignificant task, fail spectacularly, and then self destruct?
Director of Engineering Pete Dokter plots the data from a rocket launch - and suggests a new method for testing SparkFun products!
Hmm... both good suggestions. IMU 201, maybe?
What it means is that the part manufacturer wants to stop producing that part, most likely because they have another part they would rather have you to buy. You won't see it in a datasheet, but you will see it on the manufacturer's web page for the part, probably also the distro's (like Digikey) product page as well. They'll try to steer the demand for the first part to other parts while they gradually wind down production. Then after some time, the distro sends out an email that says "Last time buy!", and you know the end is near.
'773! As always, thanks for the stories! Not a PL-259?? Ah, crud. I think the reason I said it is is because when I first saw one, I went, "ah, PL-259", and then proceeded to screw one onto it. At least, I think it fit. Or I cross-threaded that sucker into oblivion.
As posted on the Youtube page: The winner of the Digilent Analog Discovery 2 USB Oscilloscope from ATP: Digital Circuits is Tanishq Jaiswal for his suggestion of a flash ADC! Thanks everybody for playing!
Hmmm... not a bad idea.
This.
Yes! As sent out on social media channels yesterday (I think it went out, anyway):

Thanks, man!
Hmmm... it looks as though this is one of those docs that someone has decreed could make them some money. Meaning that the only place I can now find it, you gotta pay...or at least jump through some hoops. I'm really sorry, but I don't have a good substitute and I'm gonna have to pull the link we've got.
Thanks, and that's quite a story, sorry to hear all of that. But I'm glad that you're hanging with us! And if I had a doctorate, I'd make everyone call me "Doctor Dokter". Even my mom.
