A new episode of Electricute, plus some changes on the wind!
A new episode of Electricute, plus some changes on the wind!
That's right- it's not just a new episode of ElectriCute, though we're very proud of this one, we're also making some changes!
Here are a few changes you WON'T be seeing:
And a few that you WILL:
So with no further ado, here's this week's video! Feast your eyes, check out the accompanying tutorial, and get ready to talk about the bad old days when you had to simulate your own ElectriCute episodes by giving your pets squeaky voices!
*Unless video views drop below an undefined threshold, at which time we'll try basically anything
See our LED page for everything you need to know to start using these components in your project.
I'm glad you'll be making more tutorials and the humidity sensing flower is pretty cool. I've been thinking of some wearable projects I want to make in the future and if you want to beat me to figuring out how to implement them I fully support that. Here are my top two:
My 4 year old daughter wants to be Captain Janeway (from Star Trek Voyager) and the costume I've planned to make has a com-badge that works (or at least makes sounds). I was thinking the badge could be made out of felt and have a button underneath the felt that triggers an MP3 file that would play sounds (perhaps delayed so she could issue a command). Or it would be cool if the badge is hooked up to a radio such that when she pushed the button she could actually talk to me (or my wife), but I have no idea how to do this.
A bracelet or cuff links that contain some kind of RFID tag and a sensor that logs on my computer when I'm close and locks it when I walk away.
Thanks for taking the time to make more videos.
Did you see the electricute episode that featured the LilyPad MP3 trigger? It's pretty easy to use, and if you want multiple buttons for sound file options, I think it would work well. That said, it's a little pricey for this purpose, and really big for a 4-year-old.
If you want a cheaper option that won't be a big deal if it succumbs to the wear-and-tear of a small child's use, you might try cannibalizing the guts of a recordable greeting card! You'll only get one sound clip, and you'll have to record it yourself (then it could FEEL like she's talking to you over the com badge, without having to implement the radio option), but it's a fun, hacky way to get the job done. :)
I actually had seen that episode, but it's been a while, thanks for the reminder. You know I've got a couple of those recordable greeting cards lying around, I think I'll have a look a the guts and see what I can hack up. Thanks for the suggestion!
