Friday Product Post: A Teensy bit of everything
Two brand new Teensy boards, our new version of the Beginner Parts Kit, and a slew of LilyPad LEDs. A Friday where you can find anything for any project!
Hello, and welcome back to another Friday full of new products! We have a big week for you guys with 10 products perfect for beginners and experts alike. The new Teensy 3.5 and 3.6 are out, as well as our new version of the very popular SparkFun Beginner Parts Kit. That's not all, though. We have seven revised LilyPad LED packs that have been updated for ease of use. But enough talk; let's dive on in and check out what we have!
A little bit of this and that for everyone!
The Teensy is a breadboard-friendly development board with loads of features in a, well, teensy package. Each Teensy 3.5 comes pre-flashed with a bootloader so you can program it using the onboard USB connection; no external programmer needed! You can program for the Teensy in your favorite program editor using C or you can install the Teensyduino add-on for the Arduino IDE and write Arduino sketches for it!
The Teensy 3.5 is larger (62.3mm x 18.0mm), faster, and capable of more projects, especially with its onboard micro SD card port. An upgraded ARM Cortex MCU (120MHz from 72MHz), more memory (512K from 256K), as well as more RAM, EEPROM, and accessible pins make up the key new features of this "teensy" board.
The Teensy 3.6 is very similar to its sibling above, but instead features a 180MHz ARM Cortex-M4 MCU, 1M Flash, 256K RAM, a USB High-Speed (480Mbit/sec) Port, 2 CAN Bus Ports (instead of just one), and more.
Both versions of the new Teensy do have models with included headers that will be available in the coming weeks.
The SparkFun Beginner Parts Kit is a small container of parts frequently used by beginning (or even experienced) hobbyists that gives you all of the basic through-hole components you will need to get started playing with embedded projects. These are the "bubble gum" parts that we regularly use or have often seen requested in classes. Inside this kit you will find a good starter assortment of caps, ICs, regulators, diodes, and good-for-blinky LEDs. This kit also features our Adjustable Parts Box for better organization.
This is the LilyPad Rainbow LED strip, with seven LilyPad LEDs that are still attached to one another, letting you snap LEDs apart at your leisure to sew into clothing or whatever else you can dream up.
The LilyPad Rainbow LED features seven individual LEDs in six unique colors. Text has been added to the back of each board to indicate its color. Due to popular request, we have included two white LEDs instead of just one, and have removed the purple (violet) LED altogether.
In addition to this Rainbow Pack, we also have the new versions of Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, Pink, and White available. You get five of each given color in each order. Just in time for Halloween!
