Get ready for a monthlong celebration of crafting with electronics!
BIG news, everyone. The month of March, aka National Craft Month, has arrived. This monthlong national celebration was established in 1994 by the Craft & Hobby Association (thanks, guys!) to help people rediscover and learn about the wonderful world of crafting and its many benefits. Ah, such a beautiful idea.
I use craft quite heavily in my work, and being a capable crafter continues to help me learn and master programmable electronics. In fact, in many ways I consider my physical computing skills as a set of creative tools with the purpose of enhancing and growing my craft practice. Needless to say, as a pretty aggressive craft advocate, this special month is near and dear to my heart. You'd better believe I am planning to celebrate this momentous month by continuing to publicly obsess over the marriage of craft and electronics, or, more elegantly, e-crafting.
In order to get everyone in the crafty head space for National Craft Month, let’s take a look back at some of our favorite recent projects at the intersection of craft and tech.
Stay tuned this March for upcoming Craft Month posts and let us know about ways you have combined crafts and electronics in the comments below!
For long-time readers, this is going to sound like the proverbial broken record, but IMHO, it bears repeating for any new readers: Be sure to check your local newspaper (especially Sunday's edition) and/or the snail-mail junk mail, as many "craft supply stores" run ads with coupons, often for "50% off any one item". There's lots of "fine print", but it's still worth the effort.
Nope -- this is a great tip; thanks for repeating it! It's something we all take advantage of here, too.
This is a super great tip! The apps for the major chains are great too, and often have electronic coupons. During the holiday season last year, I scored a pair of Gingher fabric scissors for 60% off. Saved me a pretty penny! Also, for anyone in the market for new scissors, they're definitely worth even the regular retail price. Using them is a joy, and so much easier on my hands!
Most of my usage of scissors is pretty brief, though I can certainly see how having a good pair is important if you're doing a lot of cutting. The last couple pairs of scissors have been from Harbor Frieght, and accompanied by a "free DMM with any purchase" coupon. It's great having both scissors and a multimeter in multiple rooms! ;-)
