Hello and welcome, everyone. This week we have two brand new add-on boards for the Raspberry Pi development platform: the SparkFun Auto pHAT and the SparkFun Top pHAT. As the name implies, the Auto pHAT is a feature-packed robotics platform with motor and servo drivers as well as an IMU. The Top pHAT is perfect for implementing machine learning applications that the Raspberry Pi 4, Jetson Nano and Google Coral excel at!
The SparkFun Auto pHAT for Raspberry Pi is an all-in-one robotics package that focuses on quickly adding robot functionality and support to your Raspberry Pi or other single board computer. The Auto pHAT can drive two small DC motors with or without encoders, and up to four servo motors via an I2C connection.
The servo control is based on the SparkFun servo pHAT and thanks to its I2C capabilities, this PWM add-on saves the Raspberry Pi's GPIO pins, allowing you to use them for other purposes. We have also provided a Qwiic connector for easy interfacing with the I2C bus using the Qwiic system.
Whether you use the Auto pHAT with a Raspberry Pi, NVIDIA Jetson Nano, Google Coral or other SBC, it makes for a unique robotics addition for boards with a 2x20 GPIO.
The SparkFun Auto pHAT begins shipping today!
Feeling fancy? Why not add a Top pHAT to your Pi pHAT stack? The SparkFun Top pHAT for Raspberry Pi is intended to be at the top of a pHAT stack so you won't find any pins for stacking on top of this board, but that's ok, because you will want to see the 2.4" TFT display, six RGB LEDs and three switches squeezed onto this board!
The SparkFun Top pHAT supports machine learning interactions, including voice control with an on-board microphones and speaker, graphical display for camera control feedback, and uninhibited access to the RPi camera connector. Additionally, you can use the programmable buttons, joystick and RGB LED for user defined I/O, dynamic system interaction, or system status displays.
The SparkFun Top pHAT is now available for pre-order and we expect to start shipping in early May.
pHATs are stack-ons that fit neatly on a Raspberry Pi, Jetson Nano, or Google Coral. They quickly add functionality to your single-board computer without soldering - use one, or stack them. With aligned mounting holes, they also make it easy to add accessories such as camera, display cables, or the entire Qwiic Connect System.
