Over the years, we've carried a multitude of different and unique sensors and products from the Sensirion catalog on our site. It is a popular opinion inside the walls at SparkFun HQ (although we suppose it would be within its virtual walls now?) that Sensirion sensors are the gold standard when it comes to environmental sensors. Recently, we've partnered with them to develop new sensing products, carry existing widgets, and share knowledge on everything in between. As our friends at Sensirion have said, "Making modern technology available for everyone is only one goal that we have in common."
It has only been recently that we have been able to incorporate them into our Qwiic Connect Ecosystem, allowing for easy daisy-chain abilities for each board. With Qwiic integration for the popular SHTC3 humidity sensor and SGP30 air quality breakout boards, we are able to add them to existing projects, development platforms and more.
Starting in SparkX, the SHTC3 Humidity Sensor Breakout and SGP30 Air Quality Sensor were both added to the SparkFun catalog this year. With everything going on this year, it allowed for a lot of time to stay at home and test these boards out as well as incorporate them into a few projects that kept us healthy!
As with all the new products that we develop ourselves we've made sure to document everything we can with them while providing a fun, but easy, project for each. If you haven't seen either board make sure to check out Rob's showcase. If you have picked one up and need a little help getting them up and running, check out the guide above, too.
As we build our catalog up with more Sensirion products, collaborations, and projects we will continue to post about them and show off what we've made with each part.
The Sensirion Particulate Matter Sensor SPS30 is a compact, high quality, optical particle sensor that uses laser scattering and Sensirion's innovative contamination resistance technology to achieve superior binning and particle measurement. This sensor allows users to measure mass concentration and number of particles of 1 µg/m^3, 2.5 µg/m^3, 4 µg/m^3, and 10 µg/m^3.
The SCD30 from Sensirion is a high quality Nondispersive Infrared (NDIR) based CO₂ sensor capable of detecting 400 to 10000 ppm with an accuracy of ±(30ppm+3%). In order to improve accuracy, the SCD30 has temperature and humidity sensing built in, as well as commands to set the current altitude. For additional accuracy the SCD30 also accepts ambient pressure readings!
The Sensirion STC31 Thermal Conductivity Sensor offers 16-bit resolution, 2.7V to 5.5V supply voltage range, and up to 5mA supply current rating. This is a chip-sized gas concentration sensor for high range, accurate C02 measurements designed for high-volume production. When reliability is key, the STC31 is the ideal choice due to it being based on a revolutionized thermal conductivity measurement principle, resulting in superior repeatability and long-term stability.
Now, if you are looking for a flow sensor, Sensirion has a load of options available. We carry two standalone options with the SLF3S-0600F Liquid Flow Sensor which enables precise and reliable measurements of dynamic liquid flow rates up to 2000µl/min bi-directionally or the SFM3200 Digital Flow Meter designed for high-volume applications. That being said, if you need more than one flow meter the SEK-LD20-2600B Liquid Flow Evaluation Kit tests and evaluates the LD20-2600B liquid flow sensor. This specific sensor offers a bi-directional measurement of flow rates up to 1000ml/h, and can be used to reliably detect common failure modes such as occlusions, free flow, or air bubbles with high speed and sensitivity.
We here at SparkFun Electronics are very happy to partner with Sensirion moving into the future and cannot wait to see what new products and sensors we can create together!
