Going Back To Cali'

We're heading out to Maker Faire San Mateo this weekend!

Our bags are packed...we're ready to go...and you know the rest. The SparkFun crew is heading out to Maker Faire San Mateo tomorrow AM for a weekend full of awesome. If you're in the area, please come by and say hi!

This year, we're bringing a few new projects with us that should be a lot of fun. One of them is "Snake Stomp," a game that mixes the classic "Snake" game with "Dance Dance Revolution" (kinda). We'll post up some pictures and video of the game after the Faire. We also are bringing the "Wheel of Misfortune," which is our own twist on the standard prize wheel. It will give Maker Faire attendees the chance to win some SparkFun swag!

We will also be running soldering workshops again this year. We'll have both PTH and SMD classes. If you're interested in the SMD class, come early and sign up for a time slot - there are only 9 seats so space will go fast! The PTH class will be first-come first-served and we'll be cycling people through the entire event. You'll have a choice of PTH kits including the Terror-Min, ClockIt, MetroGnome, and LectroCandle. The SMD class will feature the Simon SMD Kit. The workshops are technically free, though we do have a "suggested donation" that will go towards two local non-profits - The Exploratorium and Rosalie House Emergency Shelter.

We are super excited about Maker Faire this year and it should be a great time! We look forward to seeing you all out there - look for the crew in the red SparkFun t-shirts!

So, who among us groundlings (as opposed to the SparkFun staff) is planning to be there?
I'll be there for the duration, mostly staffing the FIRST Tech Challenge and FIRST LEGO League exhibition.
I'm looking forward to meeting at least a few of the folks I know only through here.

I'll be there! Wandering around trolling for cute nerdverts and generally causing trouble. :)

I'll be there both days with my wife. She surprised me with tickets for my birthday. Right now, I'm sitting in a hotel in San Leandro and I just used the hotel printer to print out the entire schedule, and map, etc. Gotta make that game plan!
Hoping to take the SMD class, planning my route to make a bee-line to the SparkFun booth. Should be a good time!

Just came back from the event, talk about awesomeness overload, too much cool things to see. Going back tomorrow to catch all the things I missed. It was good to see SparkFun there, was hoping that you guys would have brought some more products to sell, like more kits and top selling components; But in the spirit of the even, the soldering classes and the SMD Simon project fit the event, even though the class filled up 2 hours into the faire. Maybe next time I would sign up sooner. All in all, a must attend event.

I'm DYING to see Snake Stomp, though.

    • If you'd like to try the game the source code for SnakeStomp is available from http://www.sparkfun.com/Code/snakestomp_5_5.zip
It's written in Processing and uses an arduino sending serial commands to control the snake. You can also play with a keyboard using the W,A,S,D keys.
There is more information about the game on my site www.ProjectAllusion.com
If you have any further questions feel free to email me, Rojas@SparkFun.com

  • Just the thought of not being able to go to Maker Faire tortures the geek within me :(

      previous_statement=TRUE

      • I'm feeling very sad at this moment because I know that across the country, people are having FREE SMD CLASSES, while I have to pay 50 bucks instead of going to the biggest geek festival of the year. The Universe just loves messin' with me during the times of great nerd-dom.

Don't worry, it's a mob scene! Interest has exploded, making for a super crowded event; hard to get around last year. Good stuff will be posted to YouTube anyway...:)

Why must things have ship times?!?! I've been waiting for 3 days for my 6lbs of goodies to arrive tomorrow.
