Hello and welcome, everyone! We have a few products to showcase this week and it all starts with two revisions: The SparkFun Analog MEMS Microphone Breakout and the SparkFun LoRa Gateway. These are small revisions - the MEMS Breakout replaces the entire chip-set of the board, making it one of the best, un-enclosed microphone options available right now, and the new LoRa Gateway quadruples its Flash memory size from 4 MB to 16 MB! Following that, we are going to take a look at some new Snickerdoodle Machine Learning and FPGA boards, as well as a 16x2 character LCD screen with headers.
The SparkFun Analog MEMS Microphone Breakout makes it easy to work with the InvenSense ICS-40180 analog microphone. This board features an OpAmp to bring output of the microphone to a usable level, allowing you to plug directly into an ADC on a microcontroller or something like the SparkFun Spectrum Shield.
The SparkFun 1-Channel LoRa Gateway is a powerful, three-network-capable device thanks to an onboard ESP32 WROOM module and an RFM95W LoRa modem. The RFM95W handles the 915 MHz band, while the ESP32 takes care of Bluetooth and WiFi capabilities. One of the ideal uses is to convert LoRa (Long Range) radio messages into data packets that you can access via the web, but of course the flexibility it offers can be put to many more uses! It's a perfect, low-cost tool for monitoring a dozen or so LoRa devices and relaying their messages up to the cloud.
Snickerdoodle changes the way development is done. Reconfigure hardware on the fly, optimize for power and speed, and embed intelligence into the tightest of spaces. So powerful yet so simple, Snickerdoodle opens up a new world of connectivity, performance and creativity. SparkFun is now carrying four unique Snickerdoodle boards, as well as a few connector options and a protective case!
This is a basic, 16-character-by-two-line display with a snazzy black background and white characters. This LCD utilizes the extremely common HD44780 parallel interface chipset. Interface code is freely available. This is the same LCD included with the SparkFun Inventor's Kit and comes with all the GPIO pins pre-soldered for quick and easy interfacing.
That's it for this week! As always, we can't wait to see what you make! Shoot us a tweet @sparkfun, or let us know on Instagram or Facebook. We’d love to see what projects you’ve made! Please be safe out there, be kind to one another, and we'll see you next week with even more new products!
