Hello, everyone! We have another exciting Friday Product Post for you today, revolving around the latest addition to our Qwiic Connect System. Qwiic Micro reduces the size of a normal Qwiic board by more than a third, creating a new standard of 0.75in. x 0.30in. / 24.65mm x 7.62mm. Don't worry, we aren't getting rid of our Standard Qwiic board size of 1in. x 1in., and our actual Qwiic Connector isn't changing size either - it's just a new board size offering! With today's new sub-category of Qwiic, we bring you four new boards including the BMP581 Pressure Sensor, the BMP384 Pressure Sensor, the ISM330DHCX 6DoF IMU, and the MMC5983MA Magnetometer. Let's take a closer look at all of the new Qwiic Micro boards!
Extremely small and extremely precise.
The SparkFun Qwiic BMP581 Pressure Sensor is a micro-sized, absolute pressure sensor breakout from Bosch Sensortec. The BMP581 boasts exceptional resolution and accuracy (down to 1/64Pa) and uses on-chip linearization and temperature compensation to provide true absolute data for pressure and temperature. This version of the BMP581 Pressure Sensor is in the smallest Qwiic form factor yet, the Qwiic Micro. These breakouts measure just 0.75in. by 0.30in. so you can install these sensors in projects with exceptionally tight spaces.
The SparkFun Qwiic Micro Pressure Sensor features the BMP384 pressure sensor from Bosch Sensortec. The BMP384 excels at high-resolution measurements (up to 21-bit), and uses a gel-filled cavity to provide extra resistance to liquids (water and other chemicals). This makes it a great option for monitoring pressure near water or in humid environments, though the sensor is not water-proof without an adequate integration concept.
Six Degrees of Freedom and a super-small board!
The SparkFun Qwiic Micro ISM330DHCX Six Degrees of Freedom IMU is a micro-sized 0.75in. by 0.30in. sensor featuring STMicroelectronics' ISM330DHCX; a high-performance 3D digital accelerometer and 3D digital gyroscope tailored for Industry 4.0. Applications such as robotics, industrial automation, and navigation are made easy with this small board, as well as vibration monitoring and compensation. It can also be used to stabilize platforms, optical images, and lenses.
The other Three Degrees round out the pack!
The SparkFun Qwiic Micro MMC5983MA Magnetometer is a micro-sized, 0.75in. by 0.30in. sensor that utilizes the highly sensitive triple-axis magnetometer by MEMSIC. We've attached the magnetometer IC onto the incredibly small Qwiic Micro form factor! The MMC5983MA is capable of sensing down to 0.4mG, enabling a heading accuracy of ±0.5°.
