The Time Is Near

Free Day is in two days - Thursday, Jan. 13th. Are you ready?

Favorited Favorite 0

We just wanted to take a brief second to remind everyone (as if you needed reminding!) that Free Day 2011 is this Thursday, January 13th. Note, I said Thursday, not today (there was a bit of confusion when our countdown banner went live last week).

We are extremely excited for Free Day this year and the lads in IT have been working hard to make it go as smoothly as possible. This includes doing company wide testing where we get to act like it's Free Day everyday. It's pretty fun, but I admit it's a bit disappointing that our imaginary Free Day funds go *poof* when the test is over. Fortunately, when the real Free Day hits, any funds you garner will be there for your very-real use. Hurrah!

So you have less than 48 hours now to get your study on - don't waste it! There are a bunch of mini-tutorials on our Tutorials page titled "Bite Sized Primers." These might help you answer the Free Day quiz questions - just maybe. Good luck everyone!

Ok, just looking to clarify as I should probably be working instead of answering the quiz, but the credit is applied to our account, and usable up to 6 months, yes?

The credit is applied to your account, and usable up to 60 days (approximately 2 months).

My school has reported a two hour delay due to snow... there is no school on Thursday because of exams... if the school is closed tomorrow then there will be school on Thursday.... who knew that I would ever want school to stay open when it snows o.O .
"Thursday is today!" - maybe for you, I am in Eastern US, GMT -5.

It was way simpler last year. Just show up, push your order through and take 100$ in stuff. I'm not up for answering questions. With the amount of traffic that is going to be hounding the site I probably won't even get to question 5.

The quiz makes it slightly less attractive to treasure hunters who are just looking to make easy money. At least now they'd have to learn something about electronics to get free stuff. Also, even if you only got to question 5 when it all was over, you'd still be credited the amount you had earned up to that point - potentially $50.

Free stuff? Big deal! I still have not seen any evidence that there is anyone here who can FDTLTWATIOTSOL! (Freaking Derive The Lorentz Transformation Without Assuming The Invariance Of The Speed Of Light).
Lest get our priorities straight ;-)

That shot of the Sparkfun box standing there made me think "Red Monolith". You should do something 2001-ish with that.

Is this in any way Time Zone friendly? I'm taking the easy route and taking the cash based on years I've been building your business. :D But do I really have to get up at 5:00AM? :(

      11am for you Eastern timers

Sorry, but we're starting at 9am Mountain time, and Free Day funds will not be held in reserve depending on which meridian the sun happens to be crossing at any given point in time. If your time zone is different, you may have to stay up either really late or wake up really early :-/ I suggest all our faraway members plan ahead and set their alarm clocks!
But hey, a Free-Day-themed all-nighter might be fun, right? Right?

Turns out my math isn't as good as it used to be. If you're starting at 9AM MT that's 7AM for me. Not nearly as bad. :)
Do you guys sell calculators? :D

I will have 10 minutes left on my lunch break at school to get free stuff. Good luck everyone.

I can't wait to see what kind of hell free day causes this year... Last year was very entertaining.

    One little question..
Where will the free-day questionary be placed?

    • Erik-Sparkfun / about 14 years ago / 1

There's going to be links in the main news post, and you can click on the banner as well once Free Day is live. I believe there'll be a news post tomorrow with screen shots and stuff - although don't hold me to that :)
Seriously, though, it's about as simple and obvious as we could possibly have made it.

x2 It will probably be obvious but just in case, where do we go begin the questions?
