SparkFun will be closed on Tuesday, November 5th to support our team in being able to go out and vote! Orders placed after 2 pm MT Monday, November 4th will ship on Wednesday, November 6th. Thanks for your patience and understanding.
Outlined against a blue-gray April sky, the AVC vehicles will ride again. In dramatic lore they are known by names like Maverick, Grover, and Flaming Death. These are only aliases. They form the crest of the Autonomous Vehicle Cyclone before which acres of pavement will be destroyed at SparkFun headquarters as hundreds of spectators peer down upon the bewildering panorama spread out upon the asphalt below.
The poster of all the competitors. We took some...creative liberties...with the team logos.
Dramatic? Yes. Too much? Probably. But this weekend's autonomous vehicle competition is shaping up to be a dandy and we are pretty dang excited. This post is serving as your final reminder for the event this weekend. If you are planning on attending as a spectator, please register at our EventBrite page.
We will be streaming live video of the event and we will post links for that on the day of the race (again, Saturday, April 23rd). Yours truly (EmceeGrady) will also be "live-blogging" the event via the SparkFun Twitter page, so you can follow that way as well. Hope to see you out there!
AWESOME!!! I'm going to try to catch most of it on the video feed! (We can't afford tickets to Boulder. I know, LAME!)
same here
Love the team logo poster, particularly the new logo for Team Grover 1! Great work! Looking forward to another day of fun, mayhem, and perhaps another performance by the amazing Sparkfun Band?
Holy crap!!! I am SOOOO jealous of the participants this year. SparkFun, you have outdone yourself with the logos! They're incredulous!
I love Team Data Bus' logo. BTW who is the dude on Team Grover 1?
Grover Cleveland: The 22nd and 24th President of the United States.
Back when presidents weren't afraid to rock the 'stache. If Obama would only heed my telegraphs and give it a go, the stock market would explode with vintage manliness and we'd all have a hearty guffaw over our youthful follies, by jingo.
Excellent! I approve.
The band will be more amazing than ever. At least that's the expectations I have.
Will they be playing the sonic squid?
Nice work on the fantabulous logos! Ha.. data bus. Data. Get it? See what they did there?
Dangit... I should've gotten a Data action figure to drive the thing... runs to check amazon for expedited shipping options on old TNG toys
Well it looks like my logo is the fastest. Its a starship.
Maybe to the order of warp speed faster than the rocket on planet express's logo. Should be the same for the race.
I dunno, Team J-Rover looks like they have a flux capacitor. They could finish the race before it even starts. Now THAT'S fast!
I am assuming I am J-Rover. My team name was supposed to be jessejay, and the Bot JRover. Or there is another similar team. Either way, I will have a flux capacitor on my machine next year, and I'm shooting for 88mph BABY! LOL
That poster of all the logos should be saved in PNG, not JPEG...
And here is a beastly large (2700x3600) PNG, if that's what you're into.
OMG that is gorgeous. Kudos and LOLs to the artist!
Thanks, but I was merely pointing out that the visual content of that image is better suited to be saved as a PNG. JPEG should only be used for photographic images.
Try saving the same image (same resolution, from the source) as a PNG, you'll see the quality increase and the file size decrease (unless you use anything from Adobe, in which case you should pass the image through something like ImageOptim before uploading to your website). Adobe software usually creates bloated PNGs.
Just did a quick test... Quality is much better (PNG, 8-bit) and file size is less than half (86,580 bytes). I sent an email with the PNG to the webmaster.
Here is a larger version on our flickr account
Keep in mind this will be an ALL DAY event (9-5 mountain time), so there will be plenty of hours to catch the carnage. We'll of course also edit the highlights into a shorter video afterward.
I love the poster! We scoped out the parking lot and did some test runs on Sunday. There's going to be some serious competition this year!
Great names!!!! I think Team Lawn Dart is my favorite!
I didn't even know I had a logo, but I like it. USS Discovery. "I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that." You know that's going on the vehicle now.
