Colorado provided some interesting weather and created the picture perfect, bright white, snowy holiday we all long for - unless of course it’s the last shipping day of the season and travel is impossible. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this holiday season. We are back to our normal operating hours as of today, and ask for your patience just a bit longer during our catch-up phase over the next couple of weeks.
Not SparkFun's first crazy dress up day - this is from "Mustache Day" circa 2008.
I have been given the "go ahead" to begin a new tradition at SparkFun beginning this year. It is the "SparkFun Flannel or Fleece PJ Day" and will occur on the first day back to work of each New Year - which is today - so I wanted to share it with you as well.
Below are the um...rules, guidelines, suggestions, etc.
- Wear your Flannel or Fleece PJ's!
- Bring either a new blanket and/or new children size PJ's, to be donated to a local battered women's shelter. Children growing up in difficult situations need to feel safe and secure and what better way to help than with a new pair of PJ's or a new blanket of their own!
- There will be a gathering (with the winter staples of hot cocoa and apple cider) for a group picture to go on the website to share with all of our wonderful customers.
I have the good fortune to work in a job I enjoy, in a great environment, with fantastic management, co-workers, customers, collaborators, inventors and dreamers. I hope all of you enjoy today and every day of the coming year as much as I intend to and please don’t forget all the wonderful organizations out there that not only need our help during the holidays but throughout the entire year as well. We will update this post with a picture later today!

Looking at the trees in the Sparkfun World Headquarters photo, one cannot help but wonder just which one of them is the tree that eats UAV's in the annual contest...
Just for fun, a Sparkaloid employee should go mark the ground for a good tripod location. Then setup a tripod and photograph the trees every day for a year. String it altogether into a short video - 30 fps = about 6 seconds for a year. Sometime during that year, the tree will eat several UAV's just for fun.
That's the southeast entrance in that photo. The tree that eats the UAVs is on the northeast corner of the building.
Case in point. UAVs eaten at 2:05 and 3:20. Not shown but happened: AVC Saurus Rex taking a bite out of the tree, perhaps to avenge its lofty brethren.
It's funny how that tree has less snow on it than the others. It's the evil calmo tree of doom! (even if it only eats UAVs that actually fly into it...)
