SparkFun will be closed on Tuesday, November 5th to support our team in being able to go out and vote! Orders placed after 2 pm MT Monday, November 4th will ship on Wednesday, November 6th. Thanks for your patience and understanding.
This is going to serve as the final reminder that the SparkFun Autonomous Vehicle Competition - or AVC - is this Saturday, June 16. The event will take place right here at SparkFun headquarters in Boulder, Colo. and is sure to be a good time! Doors open at 8:30 a.m. and the first run will take place 9:30 a.m. We expect the competition to run until around 5 p.m..
This will be the fourth year we have held the AVC and we think this will be the biggest year yet. If you want to attend as a spectator, please go to our EventBrite page and register! It's free and will give us a better feel for how many people to expect. We are also going to be hosting a kid-only event, and we ask that if your child(ren) wants to participate to sign up for a youth ticket (also, free!).
Just as a note, we are experiencing some pretty bad wildfires in Colorado right now. The actual fires are far away, but the smoke has moved into the Boulder valley pretty heavily. So just be warned, if you have bad asthma or generally don't like smoke, you might not want to attend. Depending on the winds, it could be completely clear (and hopefully the fires will be more under control by then), but we wanted to let everyone know!
This year we are planning on ramping up our live-streaming video coverage, so if you can't attend, be sure to stop by the website to check out live AVC action! In addition to the robotics action, there will be live music, food, and prizes. It will undoubtedly be the highlight of the summer! Hope to see you this weekend!
SparkFun needs to set up a live feed that is on 24/7 of places like the new product studio, Nate's office, ect...
STAR THIS COMMENT IF YOU AGREE!!!
Hey, you remember how 7-8 years ago all cool techy sites had streaming webcams everywhere? And now they dont?
Theres a reason for that.
Why's that?
My guess would be the massive data requirements, and security.
Turns out that watching people work isnt all that awesome. Sparkfun would be a cool place to work, but its not The Office. Just lots of people at desks and workstations cranking things out. Anytime I want to see something like that, I just kind of turn my head from side to side, and there it is!
Not to mention the obvious privacy concerns.
That's not entirely true. Proper camera work and editing could easily create a half-hour of comedy on most days (lots of it unintentional), but getting that out of live webcam feeds would be tough.
It'd be cool to maybe get a live stream outside the building, Boulder is such a beautiful place.
Oh AWESOME! This is going down the day after I get home to Colorado from college in Cali - talk about timing, eh? Next year I'll have to bring a 'bot by.
Check www.ridejoy.com to see if anyone from your area is going. I did this for the Bay Area Maker Farie this year. It was pretty cool!
Already registered (as a spectator), and found out I have to work. But I work in Boulder, and it looks like I should at least be able to make heats one and three. At least, that's my plan!
Same here. Wish I could make the entire day, but at least I will get to see some of it.
Tune in to the broadcast when you're not around, every year we improve and this year should be pretty neat.
Ugh. I hate Ohio. Its so far away from colorado.
At least you're on the right continent...
Yeah, we're embarking on the journey tomorrow morning from Dayton. And I hate Ohio for the same reason.
