The newest Digi XBee® modules are now available at SparkFun Electronics, and we have new boards to support them!
You know as well as we do, that if we are announcing a new product on a day other than Friday, it's a big deal! We consider our friends at Digi International some of our closest and oldest, so when they approached us about supporting their new Digi XBee® modules with revised versions of our classic Explorers and development boards, we couldn't say no! Today, we are happy to announce four brand new boards and a new kit, each designed from the ground up to support The Digi XBee RR and GNSS modules as well as all legacy, through-hole modules that have been released in the past. The Digi XBee 3 global cellular module is a compact, programmable, reliable solution with BLE and end-device carrier certifications for developing secure wireless devices with worldwide connectivity and global positioning. XBee RR 802.15.4 RF Modules (available in Pro and non-Pro versions) are embedded solutions providing wireless end-point connectivity to devices. These devices use the IEEE 802.15.4 networking protocol for fast point-to-multipoint or peer-to-peer networking. They are designed for high-throughput applications requiring low latency and predictable communication timing. The XBee RR 802.15.4 RF Module supports the needs of low-cost, low-power wireless sensor networks. The devices require minimal power and provide reliable delivery of data between devices. The devices operate within the ISM 2.4 GHz frequency band. It allows local configuration with BLE using the Digi XBee Mobile app. The XBee RR is functionally equivalent to the XBee3 but does not offer the MicroPython nor the full BLE programmable services offered by the XBee3.
