The MegaBrite is an upgraded version of the ShiftBrite. It uses the same A6281 controller chip with simple SPI daisy chained control, but uses five-chip 100mA wide angle red, green, and blue LEDs. The perceived output power of the red channel is less than the blue and green channels, but when mixed at maximum output, it appears white. Each LED supplies a blinding ~35,000 mcd over a 120 degree viewing angle.
Due to the additional power requirements, no more than five MegaBrites should be operated on a straight through chain of 6 pin cables. A screw terminal header is supplied to directly inject power on various points of the chain. If desired, each MegaBrite can be powered individually.

Does anyone know what the full output of this triplet is when driven full RGB? Or of the individual LEDs?
I'd love to see it expressed in lumens, actually, so I can compare with other high brightness LEDs.
It is alternately stated as "each LED" supplying ~35,000 mcd at 120 degrees (equal to 110 lumens for just that arc) and 40,000 mcd over 140 degrees (a whopping 165 lumens for each of the three LEDs!).
I am pretty sure that these figures are not correct.
Alternatively, I could look up the LED manufacturer's specs on the individual lamps, if someone knows the LED manufacturer and model numbers.
100mA/LED is a heck of a lot of current for an LED, believe it or not. I have single LED's that run at 14,000 mcd on 20mA. If you were to look directly into their beam, you will see a floating magenta spot for a minute or so.
As far as the combined output goes, a candela is the measurement of light as perceived by the human eye. It is roughly equal to the brightness of a single candle. When dealing with these units, you simply add them up. As such 3*35,000 mcd = 105,000 mcd.
Need help with this one, been trying to use it directly to my Fio V3 3.3v and it just randomly flash at low light. Tested it both on SPI ports and regular with same results on two different ones. Used macetecs demo code and tintbrite lib, none working.

Does anyone know if it´s possible to get a suitable lens for this unit? Say if you want to put it on your bike...
I am not aware of a lens that fits this layout, or superflux LEDs for that matter. Since each LED is no more than 1/2 watt, it would not work well as a bicycle headlight. However, it would definitely provide a very bright direct-view light source for accent lighting.
I just love the radioactive symbol on the back. It's like a 35 megaton shiftbright.
