These are the red LEDs that were used in our, now retired, Optical Mouse Sensor Breakout. Since we already have a nice selection of red LEDs, we won't be carrying them for very long so get them while you can.
These Radiometrically Tested Precision AlInGaP II (aluminum indium gallium phosphide) LEDs have an extremely long useful life, low power consumption and a well-defined spatial radiation pattern. All of this makes them ideal for sensor-based solutions.
If it requires power, you need to know how much, what all the pins do, and how to hook it up. You may need to reference datasheets, schematics, and know the ins and outs of electronics.
Skill Level: Rookie - You may be required to know a bit more about the component, such as orientation, or how to hook it up, in addition to power requirements. You will need to understand polarized components.
