SparkFun Simon - Surface Mount Stenciling Kit
Our Surface Mount Stenciling Simon Says kit is a great challenge to anyone with intermediate skills at soldering resulting in a pretty fun toy that you can be proud to say "I made this!" We want to up the ante and make you more proficient in all soldering forms, we want to teach you how to stencil and reflow SMD parts!
The Surface Mount Stenciling version of the Simon Says Kit is designed to work as an alternate add-on with the Simon SMD kit. Simply replace the PCB in the Surface Mount Simon Soldering Kit with the one included in this kit, that's it! Every part can and should be used as normal. This is a great kit for anyone who knows how to learn how to stencil and reflow.
Again, this kit is considered an intermediate kit for people who have soldered before and wish to learn how to reflow surface mount components.
Note: You will need a heat source for reflowing the solder paste. A Heaterizer, hot-air rework station, hot plate, etc should work. You will also need the Simon SMD kit and some solder paste as well.

Core Skill: Soldering
This skill defines how difficult the soldering is on a particular product. It might be a couple simple solder joints, or require special reflow tools.
Skill Level: Competent - You will encounter surface mount components and basic SMD soldering techniques are required.

Whether it's for assembling a kit, hacking an enclosure, or creating your own parts; the DIY skill is all about knowing how to use tools and the techniques associated with them.
Skill Level: Noob - Basic assembly is required. You may need to provide your own basic tools like a screwdriver, hammer or scissors. Power tools or custom parts are not required. Instructions will be included and easy to follow. Sewing may be required, but only with included patterns.

Hello ! I've read the Assembly Guide, and I want to thank you for the stencil method with hot air ! I did'nt think it would be possible ! Does someone knows if I can do it for QFN parts, like the MPUs from Invensense ? Thanks !
OK. I didn't even know you offered such a kit, I read about it in today's email.
I'm beyond needing it now. I've made stencils & reflowed stuff since last summer.
It's nice to know it's here, maybe they'll be around when I can recommend this kit.
Same here! I really would have bought that since I only have studied stenciling and reflow methods but have yet to actually do it. Apart from simple hot air rework, I've never done a whole board. Could really use it.
I'm curious as to what the stencil is made of...
It's look like a poliamida, the same of flex pcb.
It may also be Kapton. I'll double check on that.
You buy this and the other Simon kit, why not just offer a kit where there isn't an extra circuit board remaining? Seems wasteful.
LOL, we actually did carry the kit, but it wasn't a big seller, and the new solder paste is too big and expensive for the kits so we discontinued it. This kit is actually to sell off the remaining stock of PCBs and stencils.
You guys should keep it posted. I would buy it for sure.
