When you need POWER, SparkFun has you covered! Welcome to the future, people. It's 2015 and we may not be able to predict the weather to a second or control flying cars but we do finally have your hoverboard! The SparkFun High Output Velocity Emitting Repulsor Board combines three decades of our creative ingenuity into developing this autonomously powered personal levitator that allows you to fly close to the ground without any liquid-nitrogen-cooled superconductors, permanent magnets, or a metal-lined quantum-locking "obfuskate" park.
The SparkFun H.O.V.E.R. Board sports a number of innovative features that can literally shock and amaze! The Legacy Power Containment Unit may look like an outdated car battery but this thing can very nearly power a whole H.O.V.E.R. Board and a PWR LED simultaneously! The Faraday Relative-Floatation Sub-Matrix connects directly to the Repulsor Array on the bottom of the board and they sure do help keep the H.O.V.E.R. Board afloat somehow while the Electrolyte Reservoir helps carry an electric charge between the two.
Once the SparkFun H.O.V.E.R. Board is turned on it is going to start accelerating at an alarming pace so make sure you are securely on the board before activating it. Now don't be too worried, we have installed a few "saftey measures" to help with the blazing speeds you'll be sure to reach. The Acceleration Mitigation Pedal found at the front of the board will help slow you down by just leaning your body forward at top speed, it's very intuitive! Should all else fail, however, we have installed two pairs of Emergency Arrestor Grapples to the bottom of the board. By detecting the sudden change of weight from an inevitable gnarly bail, weight sensors in the H.O.V.E.R. Board send a signal to the gas powered grapples resulting in a hopeful hard lock on the surface directly below the board and a sudden deceleration. Seriously though, you are going to want that hard lock. All of this has been attached to one of Pete Dokter's Wood Laminate Scab Factory Boards and held together with a series of artisanal quality, Malaysian bungee cords.
A few things to keep in mind: Double check your polarity before operating the SparkFun H.O.V.E.R. Board. You seriously don't want to be anywhere near this thing when it's going backwards. After operation you may want to let your shoes 'cool' off for a little while they may be a little... you know what, toss em. Seriously, just throw your shoes away after use.
So if you are the type of person who likes to frequent your local 1980's cafe or just like to live life with a little more uncertainty then grab your 'perfect' cola, slip on your self-lacing boots, and start hovering in relative safety and extreme style!
Note: SparkFun Electronics is not liable for personal, property, or personal animal damage. Do not operate the SparkFun H.O.V.E.R. Board over water. SparkFun Electronics does not condone the use of this product in any way. Photos may not be representative of actual product.
Note: This is a gag products that was released for October 21, 2015. The day Doc and Marty traveled firward in time in Back to the Future 2.
This skill defines how difficult the soldering is on a particular product. It might be a couple simple solder joints, or require special reflow tools.
Skill Level: Expert - You will be required to have a firm understanding of both SMD and PTH soldering and are comfortable with rework as well. You are required to solder difficult packages like a BGA.

This skill concerns mechanical and robotics knowledge. You may need to know how mechanical parts interact, how motors work, or how to use motor drivers and controllers.
Skill Level: Expert - In addition to having a solid foundation in robotics, you will need to know how sensors integrate with complex robotic systems. You will need to understand how to implement IMUs, UAV controllers, etc.

Whether it's for assembling a kit, hacking an enclosure, or creating your own parts; the DIY skill is all about knowing how to use tools and the techniques associated with them.
Skill Level: Expert - At this point, you should have a solid understanding of power tools and have access to a shop full of equipment. You might need to make a custom mold, have access to a CNC machine, or design custom parts.

If a board needs code or communicates somehow, you're going to need to know how to program or interface with it. The programming skill is all about communication and code.
Skill Level: Expert - You should be extremely comfortable programming on various hardware in several languages.

If it requires power, you need to know how much, what all the pins do, and how to hook it up. You may need to reference datasheets, schematics, and know the ins and outs of electronics.
Skill Level: Expert - You will need a solid understanding of datasheets and electrical theory. You may be dealing with high voltage, dangerous current, AC line voltage. You may be required to use an oscilloscope, perform waveform analysis, or perform RF calculations.

How do you guys feel about these new "hoverboards" that don't really hover lol for those who don't know what i am talking about. here you go http://www.vecarolifestyle.com I don't really know why they are called "hoverboards" anyways, do any of you think they are going to stick around for a while or just a phase ? Considering selling online but not to sure how well they will do now. Thanks for any feedback.
Yeah! Emit that velocity! Woo hoo!
Man, last time I rode one of these I was so distracted running from a couplea thugs I went right off into a lake. Ruined my day.
When will a breakout board be available for the repulsor array?
Villiam!
Fancy meeting you here. Hope all is well -- There may be no "BOB-Repulse" but I bet they have one for the bungie cords.

Depends when the DoD allo... I mean... eventually.
Any plans for different colors?
What's wrong with the current color? The "Classic Legacy" look is in right now!
I love the skill levels required!
I don't see pricing or inventory information!
Still calculating. In the mean time the datasheet is worth a read.
There's really not too much written in the data sheet. It only took me 22.71 seconds to get through...
Awww, there is no spoon. Holler back when you get some 10kW Mach-Lorentz thrusters in stock.
BTW, I detected one realism: PWR LED could very well be a dummy light that comes on when Power-to-Weight Ratio is insufficient. ;)
Fun Fact about that LED: It is directly connected to the "Legacy Power Containment Unit" without any form of resistance. Mathematical!
"Cruising Speed: 76.47 Knots"? Very clever, Sparkfun.
Thank you :D
Is it April Fool's day? I want to believe this is real but I don't think I could handle that kind of let down.
October 21, 2015 was the day that they traveled to in back to the future 2.
This product was posted on October 21'st, 2015. Back to the future day.
If you haven't watched back to the future, do so now. you'll get it.
What the heck? Pressing the Space bar in the Datasheet game just brings me back to the product page. What gives?
Fixed! :)
Yay! It works now. :-)
Are you using FireFox? We think there might be a bug in that browser, we'll look into it more. Try Chrome. :)
Yes...but time has passed and, as James said, it's fixed now! :-)
