SparkFun Beginner Parts Kit
The SparkFun Beginner Parts Kit is a small container of parts frequently used by beginning (or even experienced) hobbyists that gives you all of the basic through-hole components you will need to get started playing with embedded projects. These are the "bubble gum" parts that we regularly use or have often seen requested in classes. Inside this kit you will find a good starter assortment of caps, ICs, regulators, diodes and good-for-blinky LEDs. This kit also features our Adjustable Parts Box for better organization.
This assortment of parts makes a great gift for beginner and advanced electronics nerds! Whether you're starting an electronics collection, or just refilling, the Beginner Parts Kit will have a lot of what you need.
You may notice there are no resistors in this kit. We recommend purchasing the resistor kit listed below for all the resistor values you may need.

Beginner Parts Kit Identification Guide

The essential parts for beginning (or even experienced) hobbyists that gives you all of the basic through-hole components you will need to get started playing with embedded projects. We'll identify a few parts in the kit and provide a few basic circuits to get started!
Core Skill: Electrical Prototyping
If it requires power, you need to know how much, what all the pins do, and how to hook it up. You may need to reference datasheets, schematics, and know the ins and outs of electronics.
Skill Level: Rookie - You may be required to know a bit more about the component, such as orientation, or how to hook it up, in addition to power requirements. You will need to understand polarized components.

Good, but could be better
The kit does a good job with great assortment of all basic components. But I felt the lack of a small power source, like a Lipo battery with small DC-DC to get 5V or 12V, to power up your basic project. And resistors, of course. I really like to switch the 7-segment for a couple of 1/4W resistors. They are the most missed component in the kit. But the kit is awesome.

Thought through
Thought through set of commonly used parts for a good price. Box is very convenient and good quality product. Label on top of the box with the list of parts is small but extremely useful addition which differ this product from competitors.

This is exactly what I needed to get started on the beginner level.

I have been out of the field for a while but have wanted to start back in with some small projects. these parts will keep me from having to dig out of storage all my old components for a while so that I can get started sooner.
Satisfied
This kit along with the resistors kit give you the possibility to run every project. Do not forget you can get almost any value of capacitor and resistor by series/parallel combination, so it is absolutely fun!
Has almost everything a beginner or above can use all the time

Saves me time. Less time wasted looking for parts for my current project. Need a resistor or cap. I know just where to look.

D'oh! I needed this a month ago when I bought a bunch of these parts (plus the box, which also wasn't at SF at the time) individually to start up my collection. Oh well ¯_(ツ)_/¯
