Keeping your workspace clean and well kept has always been a paramount concern for keeping all your possessions well maintained and pristine. With this Insulated Silicone Soldering Mat, you will be provided with the means to protect your desktop, soldering station, or workbench from the superheated tip of a soldering iron! Each mat is equipped with a large working area for all your soldering needs as well as a plenty of organization "buckets" (one large, three medium, eight small, and 56 tiny) for resistors, soldering tips, ICs and other various components. Due to the composition of these mats being comprised of silicone, they do have a useful temperature range with a maximum of 500°C (930°F).
These mats are capable of protecting a 400mm x 300mm (~15.75" x ~11.8") area with 235mm devoted to the working area and another 65mm for storage space. Since these soldering mats non-slip, non-conductive, and heat resistant they make for a perfect addition to your workbench!

I really love this mat. It is the perfect size (although I also got 2 of them). If you are making something complicated - the little divisions/separators are perfect for preparing your materials. Very nice smooth surface! Non-Slip is true! You can drop the soldering iron on it - no problem. It is everything you want in a soldering mat!

I was really pleased with the Mat. It is thicker than I expected and works well with my solder station.
Very good price and good quality. I think it should have a grounding strap attachment point though.
The middle space is perfect for fitting two SODIMMs, and I love the numbered screw spaces. My only complaint is that it really loves its dust, and doesn't like letting it go.
I wish there were larger indents/more indents. Great for soldering, unaffected by hot solder and solder pens.
It keeps me from scratching up tiny S.M.D. components.
I am finally getting around to finishing my Nixie clock project a coworker gave me when I retired. The circuit board is mostly SMD components and the mat works very well for organizing the parts and has a nice area for soldering the board.
It’s a fantastic product. Simple design. Very utilitarian. Would recommend.
ESD safe is for wimps. Can we have it in pretty colors like the silicon kitchen utensils?
Nice looking, but non-conductive?! This is not the ESD protection we're looking for.
Likely meant to be a passives only soldering mat. Shame. Having something ESD rated for sensitive components would have been awesome.
I second that. It would be great if Sparkfun would sell durable, entry-level ESD mats.
I was using a silicon mat, but it generated so much static electricity that I hated to use it. I also had trouble keeping it clean, you can't wipe it, the debris clings tightly. I always had to rinse it off under water to get it clean and then wait for it to dry since wiping it with a towel was not effective. I wound up paying about $70 for an overpriced but true ESD mat that also can handle a little heat. It's also easy to keep clean, and covers my entire work surface. I did not really care if it was ESD rated, but sure did not want a static bomb like the one I was first using. I have no idea if this mat has those kind of issues, but I'd stay away from it. It would be great if Sparkfun bought big rolls of the professional stuff and sold cut offs at a reasonable price. I would have bought it, glad to pay $40 for a 2x3' mat of the professional grade.
Is the mat ESD safe?
I'm also wondering if this is ESD safe.
The mat is not marked as RoHS. Is because it is not an electronic equipment or does it really contain some non-compliant chemicals?
A photo with ruler & a thickness measurement would help.
