Pick and Place Spare Parts Grab Bag
At our current size, it's inevitable that there will be some waste in production. This is a grab bag of some of the parts that have fallen off the pick and place machines. It pains us not to use these parts knowing they are still 99% good. But because of our crazy growth we just can't justify testing and reusing them. That's why we're putting them up for sale: hoping to divert some electronics trash and give our customers some useful parts to pull from.
You will get a bag of various parts to use for whatever you want. As stated above, they are untested, and you will get whatever we send you. If you don't like gambles, this is not for you. We only guarantee you get 'something'.
The picture is a good representation of what you get.

Wow, I just got an email that this product has been retired :-(
You guys must have really improved the accuracy of your pick and place machine! (Or found uses for the dropped parts)
P&P Spare parts! But what if something on the machine breaks and you already sold all the spare parts?!
How often do these and the other "Dings and Dents" items actually become available? I've been staking out these product pages for over a month and haven't seen any available :(
How much will it cost (In around about terms) to ship this to the UK?

I see slide switches, MBRA140 diodes, 100uF caps, a tri color LED, inductors, a LM1117 v-reg, and hmmmm lots of other stuff.

This reminds me yesteryear when radio shack wasnt the "would you like to buy a cell phone" shack. And the manager of the local store was a HAM that would put out grab bag boxes.
I would save up my quarters and run down on Friday afternoon and buy one. And be set for a weekend of melting solder.
I live in Nashville and we have what I think is the last independent radio shack... just got some seed studio stuff from him ... he said he would carry spark fun stuff if he could sell it
I live in Nashville also. Where is this Radioshack you speak of? I know the one near me actually has a decent selection. Would be nice to have another source for those "oh crap" moments on Friday afternoon when Sparkfun is a weekend away shipping wise.

Radioshack is an okay choice if you need something pretty general, and don't have time for shipping. The one near me is pretty good. The components seem overpriced for their quality. A pack of resistors is like $1.95 or so.
"Oh, the grab-bag is out of stock again." "So, you're just going to wait for their machine to break down for them to come back into stock?" "Guess again. Have you seen my sledgehammer?"

Darn, 7 in stock but I didn't see the email for 25 minutes and missed out.
My wife will be very happy about this and now I'll go back to resurrecting "ding and dent" products that I'm hoarding :)

Hey, they could keep track of how many of these things they have to sell. If they notice that they have a lot of these, they'd be like "Hey! We have too many grab bags! The pick and place machine must be broken again" =)
got an email saying there were 8 of these in stock, and they were gone by the time I clicked the link!
I came to the site as soon as I saw the email and 5 were already gone. I was able to snag a couple. These little bags of parts are awesome if you do SMD prototyping.

Me too... I could not have been any faster. I literally opened my browser as soon as the email arrived and in less than 10 seconds I had the product up in front of me and it was already out of stock! Gahhh! :)
I think it pays off to have a last name closer to the beginning of the alphabet in cases like this. Mine is near the end and I bet I got the email at a disproportionately late time compared to someone who's last name starts with A. ;)

Any ETA on this? I would imagine that by now you have a nice collection of parts. Side question: Does the Pick & Place realize when it drops something? Will it go back and grab another part?

How many bags were there to begin with?
It looks like on January 4, there were 20 bags. The first order came in at 9:03 am, the last one was gone by 9:22 am.
wow thats fast! I wish there was an app that could send me a notification on my phone that would be like, hey theres some dings and dents for sale!
You can setup autonotify to your email address. and thats pretty close to what you want
when i ordered one there were 10 left. about 5 minutes later they were all gone.
so WHO knows...
oh man! i wish i would have seen this... i would have bought a few... I have my own stock of parts like this but i rip off other boards or stuff i find.
