SparkFun will be closed on Tuesday, November 5th to support our team in being able to go out and vote! Orders placed after 2 pm MT Monday, November 4th will ship on Wednesday, November 6th. Thanks for your patience and understanding.
For a long time we've had small 7-segment displays and *huge *7-segment displays, but now we finally have something in between. These 20mm 4-digit 7-segment displays are big enough to see from a distance but not so big that you'd have trouble finding an enclosure for them.
These common-cathode displays feature 4 x 7-segment digits and one decimal point per digit. The LEDs have a forward voltage of 2.3VDC and a max forward current of 30mA.
If it requires power, you need to know how much, what all the pins do, and how to hook it up. You may need to reference datasheets, schematics, and know the ins and outs of electronics.
Skill Level: Competent - You will be required to reference a datasheet or schematic to know how to use a component. Your knowledge of a datasheet will only require basic features like power requirements, pinouts, or communications type. Also, you may need a power supply that?s greater than 12V or more than 1A worth of current.

I wrote a library for this. The repo also includes a schema how to connect this display.

I think I may have burned out a few of my segments trying to figure out what was what, but the link below goes to a table that I think shows how all these pins work. (No guarantee or affiliation, provided as-is, and good luck.)

I bought two of these, and the pin out is different on each of them and neither match the datasheet or the last two I bought (which were the same and to my recollection to the datasheet).
These should be called 0.8 inch (or 20mm) tall displays. Industry standard to select the actual lit digit dimension as the key indicator of size not the plastic encasement. The spec sheet doesn't indicate wether the intensity (mcd) is per segment or digit, I don't read chinese, sorry.
