1-Wire to Qwiic Bridge - DS28E17

The 1Wire-to-Qwiic Bridge allows you to communicate via I2C over very long distances. It does so by utilizing the 1Wire communication protocol, which can communicate at distances of up to about 100 meters, depending on the application. The I2C information is packetized as a 1Wire packet, sent over the 1Wire bus to the DS28E17 Bridge, and translated to I2C for any slave device connected to the Bridge. Communication happens bi-directionally. Please note that the DS28E17 is a 1Wire IN/ I2C OUT device, meaning the master device needs to be connected to a 1Wire bus to communcate with the bridge.

Multiple 1Wire-to-Qwiic Bridges can be daisy-chained for multi-node networks. Footprints for both an RJ45 connector as well as an RJ11 connector have been added for convenient networking.

Each DS28E17 comes programmed with a unique 64-bit ROM registration number that serves as a node address in the 1-Wire network. This means that I2C devices that have limited or only a sinlge I2C address can be attached to separate 1Wire-to-Qwiic Bridges and addressed individually without the need of a multiplexer or other complicated addressing scheme.

  • Would be nice if there wasn't a limit of 1 per customer you know, you need a pair of these to be able to use either of them, so a limit of one is just mind blowingly stupid...

    Hey Sparkfun! Can you raise the limit per customer to a minimum of 2, preferably a bit higher? I do have a good use for these, but i need multiples to be able to use them. (need to run I2C over tens of meters of cable to control various "nodes" in a watering system and the cable runs are quite long). Probably going to need 6-10 possibly even more of them in the end, provided the first 2 work as advertised. Why so many? Master Controller Node, 5 Slave nodes each controlling a bank of solenoids, and on top of that, need to control some LED path lighting that uses the same Power and Control cabling.
