Mi-Light RGBW LED Controller Box

The Mi-Light RGBW LED Controller Box is a 2.4GHz RF controllable LED accessory that enables your non-addressable LED strips to change color, dim, and select pre-loaded modes via the Mi-Light Remote Control (sold separately). Essentially, this little plastic box enables any non-WS2812 or APA102 ("NeoPixel" or "DotStar") LED strips to act as if they were without any other external boards. Set up is simple thanks to an array of screw terminals on either side of the controller box. By just screwing an LED strip's control wires into the right side of this box and then plugging in power via a barrel jack (or another set of screw terminals) on the left side of the box, you'll be up and running in no time!

Each Mi-Light RGBW LED Controller Box has a range of about 30m (almost 100ft) and an operating voltage of 12VDC-24VDC with an output of 6A per channel. You will even have access to nine pre-set programs that the controller box can begin interacting with your LEDs out of the box. With these capabilities, the LED controller box can manage any of the non-addressable LED strips we carry in our catalog!

NOTE: We no longer carry a compatible remote to pair with this device. You will need to find a compatible one elsewhere that works for your needs.

  • Transmission Frequency: 2.4GHz
  • Operating Voltage: 12VDC-24VDC
  • 6A Load per Channel
  • Common Anode Output Connection
  • 30 Meter Distance
  • Nine Pre-Set Programs
  • Dimensions: 85mm x 45mm x 23mm

Non-Addressable RGB LED Strip Hookup Guide

February 19, 2020

Add color to your projects with non-addressable LED strips! These are perfect if you want to control and power the entire strip with one color for your props, car, fish tank, room, wall, or perhaps under cabinet lighting in your home.

How to link the Controller Box with a Mi-Light 4-Zone LED Remote Controller

Linking new lights to the remote controls: 1. Choose which zone you want to assign the light (1 to 4). 2. Switch off the main power supply of the light in the select zone with the main switch or pull the plug. 3. Now switch on the light again and within 3 seconds shortly press one of the ’Zone ON’ buttons one time on the remote control. 4. When this link operation is successful, the light slowly blinks 3 times on and off.

Unlinking the lights: 1. Check via the remote control to see which zone (1 to 4) is already linked to a lights. 2. Switch off the main power supply of the lights with the main switch or plug from the socket. 3. Now switch on the light again within 3 seconds press 5 times quickly and shortly on one the ‘Zone ON’ buttons which you want to unlink. 4. When this unlink operation is successful, the light quickly blinks 6 times on and off.

Core Skill: Electrical Prototyping

If it requires power, you need to know how much, what all the pins do, and how to hook it up. You may need to reference datasheets, schematics, and know the ins and outs of electronics.

2 Electrical Prototyping

Skill Level: Rookie - You may be required to know a bit more about the component, such as orientation, or how to hook it up, in addition to power requirements. You will need to understand polarized components.

In "Hookup Accessories", "LED Neon Flex Rope" (COM-14555) is shown. These aren't compatible, since the Mi-Light outputs R, G, B, and W on separate wires (probably just PWM 12v), while the rope uses a single data line (UCS1903 protocol; 5v data, 24v power). But I will happily watch a video of SparkFun hooking the two up. 😈⚡️💨

Simple controller for RGB LED light strips

Very easy to wire with clearly marked terminals, although markings are on the front and terminal screw points are on the back. I wish they had activation instructions in the package because you need to pair it with a remote control before you can use it and there is nothing included to step you through the simple process. A sticker on the back of it with pairing instructions would be fantastic! Be careful with open leads at ends of LED strips. I fried the first controller because I didn't notice some of the leads were touching, Doh! Was more careful with the replacement one I bought. It has several modes on color changing or dial in a solid color. I'm driving 3-1 meter RGB strips with it. So far so good!

Hello, and thanks for the review! The directions for actually in the data sheet for the remote control, but I'm adding them here for you and other to see if they need to know how to link a remote to the controller box.

Works Reasonably Well

Pairing with the remote control took a bunch of tries. Pariing is more difficult than it needs to to be.

I am disappointed that there is no way to select a single color. For example, I cannot turn on just the blue LED's. Color selection is done with a circular touch pad on the remote. It isn't possible to get just one color turned on because the remote doesn't have the resolution to do that.

do not buy this

this is the older generation of mi-light and spark fun doesn't carry the remote necessary to operate it. waste of your money.
