Triple Axis Accelerometer Breakout - ADXL330

Replacement:SEN-09269. We are now carrying the ADXL335 in place of the ADXL330. This page is for reference only.

Breakout board for the 3 axis ADXL330 from Analog Devices. This is the latest is a long, proven line of Accelerometers from Analog - and now the holy grail has finally arrived. The ADXL330 is a triple axis accelerometer with extremely low noise and power consumption - only 320uA! Sensor ranges from +/-3g. Board comes fully assembled and tested with external components installed.

Interface: The ADXL330 is a 3V part and outputs an analog voltage for each of the three outputs. This voltage is in ratio to the measured acceleration and to the supply voltage (ratiometric). You will need some extra hardware to convert this analog signal to a usable digital one. Luckily, many uCs have a built in Analog to Digital converter.

I love Sparkfun for all they do and sell, but you can get a triple-axis accelerometer, joystick and two push button switches all wired up neatly in a Wii Nunchuck controller... delivered to the US from Hong Kong for $4 each... search eBay.
I just bought five of them for PIC projects and personal education. I know it's mostly an economy of scale thing, but 5x the cost for many fewer parts?

It even costs $10 more than the lillypad accelerometer, which uses the same sensor with additional external components. Do green squares cost THAT much more than purple circles?

Anyone know why this breakout board costs so much? For instance, it costs $15 more than the similar MMA7260Q breakout board, even though the ADXL330 sensor costs less, it has fewer external components (resisters, et al.), and the board is smaller? Am I missing something?
    Thanks!
